Expression NOT working with conditions BUT works without a condition.

I have a SharePoint list, APP and two Power Automate flows. When a new request is submitted in the APP my expression works fine. One of the columns has a dollar value. My second flow has a condition to check for a radio button column for changes from YES to NO, if so send an email with verbiage including the approved dollar value using my expression. Now I have tried this SP column set as currency and a number and it will not work with my condition as follows: I need the value from the SP column to be in currency inside the email. Here is my expression:

formatnumber(item()?['TotalPaymentRequest'], 'C2')

Error Details: One or more fields provided is of type 'Null', a different type is expected.

Again, works perfect in original request submission but not when closing the request.

My condition has Start and End Tokens - see pics pleas and Thank you

@solarheater Please reference my prev post. You are missing a parameter in your expression. The formatNumber() takes two parameters.

@solarheater Does this dynamic content output a true/false value?

creativeopinion_0-1705606982132.png

If not, then the condition will always be false—since your condition is set to compare the value in the first value field (your dynamic content) to that in the second value field (true in this case).

Hello, I changed condition to false and the flow ran as successful but did not send the email. A new error message shown below:

ActionBranchingConditionNotSatisfied. The execution of template action 'Send_an_email_(V2)' skipped: the branching condition for this action is not satisfied.

@solarheater Sorry you might have misunderstood what I was trying to communicate. What I was saying is the value OUTPUT on the left (outlined below) must match the value in the right.

In your case the value on the right is true. I have no idea what the value output of your dynamic content is. You will have to verify this.

creativeopinion_0-1705610365502.png

Take a look at this section of the YT Tutorial I referenced in my previous post. Use a Compose action to store the dynamic content before the condition action and run a test. What is the output of the Compose action?

I should have ran the condition before replying. I just ran a Compose and the output was "Closed", I updated condition to Closed and again ran successful but with the same email skip error .
ActionBranchingConditionNotSatisfied

@solarheater Can you upload a screenshot of the flow in edit mode and after the flow run? It's hard to troubleshoot without being able to reference your flow.

@solarheater The issue is that the dynamic content you've selected is a choice column. Your Condition is most likely returning a False value because the output of the dynamic content is an object.

You need to select the appropriate dynamic content that returns the value only. It'll be easier to see what I mean if you switch to the Classic Designer and view the output of the Compose action.

Hello, I changed the dynamic content to a "Open/Closed" value. I tested it on Closed and it failed(Pic). I changed the value to "true" and was successful but no email sent, and changed to "false" and again was successful but no email sent. (Pic)

@solarheater Sorry, I think there is a misunderstanding with how you think the Condition action works. Please review this section of the YT Tutorial.

Please open this condition action and review the output of the Compose action.

creativeopinion_0-1705679528790.png

As per my instructions. I asked you to put this dynamic content INTO the Compose action so that you can review the output.

creativeopinion_1-1705679574302.png

In your Condition argument you are asking it to check if the dynamic content is equal to false.

creativeopinion_2-1705679605157.png

If your Compose action outputs the string of text 'Open' or 'Closed', the condition will return false all the time. Because it's not a match.

You are essentially saying:

Open is equal to false

or

Closed is equal to false.

Instead, you have to adjust your condition based on what you want to do with the rest of your action.

Open is equal to Open

The condition will return true. Because Open is equal to Open. There is a match.

Closed is not equal to Open

The condition will return false. Because Close is not equal to Open. There is no match.

Hope this clears things up.

I truly appreciate you help...truly! This is very frustrating, I followed your directions to a "T" yet its failing. I even added an additional Yes/No column in my SP list as shown in the YT video to eliminate the "Choice", still failing. I take out the "formatnumber(item()?['TotalPaymentRequest'], 'C2')" expression and the email trigger works right away as the Yes/No option just as it did with the Open/Closed option. The process gets through and errors in the Send Email v2, I am new to this but have some good experience with Power BI. I cannot understand why my expression works without a condition yet crashes with one, even after I mocked the YT video with the Yes/No which works without the expression. I have tried the column as currency, as a number, as a number with the currency sign it just wont work. I may be missing something that your telling me, I'm not an expert but this is frustrating.

Please dont feel the need to respond at this point, I thank you for all of your time and expertise.

@solarheater No worries. I think there is just a misunderstanding.

Can you please expand the Compose action and send a screenshot of the output of your Compose action before the Condition?

Hi, this is on the new column of Yes/No which fails with the formatnumber expression.

@solarheater It looks like you solved the Condition issue.

Sorry, the error by itself doesn't give me much to go on. What expression are you trying to use. I would need to see it to better understand how to assist.

My one SP column is "Total Payment Request". The expression is:

formatnumber(item()?['TotalPaymentRequest'], 'C2')

I'm sure you know what it's doing to display currency from the input amount in my SP list column. The email trigger works great with this expression when a new submission is placed. Difference between the two flows is the addition of "Get changes for an item or file and the Compose and Condition. Thank you.

@solarheater The formatNumber() function convert numbers into a formatted string based on specific formatting rules. It takes

creativeopinion_0-1705694500561.png

The function takes to parameters (as shown above in the tooltip).

Number: This is the number you want to format.

Format String: This is a string that specifies how you want the number to be formatted. It uses placeholders and specific symbols to indicate how the number should be displayed.

What is the output of this dynamic content? item()?['TotalPaymentRequest'] is it a number?

Yes, it's a check request amount number, the expression converts it to currency in the email. If the column is set to currency, dynamic does not display currency from the column.  I researched and found the SP column has to be set to a number and not set to currency, however I've tried every combination. You're using the expression with compose from your pics, are you asking me to do the same? Thanks

@solarheater I'm a bit confused with your expression that you used:
The C2 is what is causing the issue.

formatnumber(item()?['TotalPaymentRequest'], 'C2')
