Build flow to email when date on Sharepoint list within certain number of days

Hello Community,

I feel silly for making this post, as I have read through seemingly dozens of very similar posts/questions to this one... to the point that I was certain I could make my flow work.  But, for some reason, the answer eludes me.

I have spent nearly 2 weeks on this (Google searching, reading threads here...etc) and I cannot find the answer.

My needs are simple:

Sharepoint list with a date column

Evaluate date

If less than x days away, send an email

Again, I know this question/post has been made numerous times here...and I feel like a fool.  It seems so easy.

However, either I get an email regardless of whether the date in question is within x days or not, or, I get no email (whenever the apply to each pops up, it seems to ruin my flow).

Please help if you're able.  I'd be willing to do a screenshare...anything to get this working.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Rich

Null values will cause the filter to fail unless you account for them.  The formula will need to be something like this.

@And(not(equal(item()?['Date_x0020_Standard'],null)),greater(item()?['Date_x0020_Standard'], utcNow()), less(item()?['Date_x0020_Standard'], addDays(utcNow(), 10)))

Sorry, my typo.  The function is equals() not equal().

Here's an example of what you need.  You'll need to adjust the recurrence schedule and the filter to suit your needs.  The key is the condition.  Since you can't read all of it in the screenshot here it is

@And(greater(item()?['Date_x0020_Standard'], utcNow()), less(item()?['Date_x0020_Standard'], addDays(utcNow(), 10)))

That will filter out anything with the date greater than today but less than 10 days from now.

Hi PStork1,

Thank you for taking the time to try to help me... I really appreciate it.  Unfortunately, I do not think I know enough to fill in some of the blanks in your example.  For instance:

What is the Dynamic Content in that Filter Array section?

How does it "know" what to look for (the data column in my Sharepoint list)?

What is Parse JSON?

Where is all the Dynamic Content coming from in the Apply to Each and Send Email stages?

I apologize for seemingly being so helpless.  I have a couple other Flows working, so I am capable of creating functional Flows.  However, this Flow seems to need more 'program-matic coding' that I cannot seem to get functional (again, even though I've read through dozens of similar posts/questions in this community).

Rich

What is the Dynamic Content in that Filter Array section?

The output from the Get Items action

How does it "know" what to look for (the data column in my Sharepoint list)?

Get items , will retrieve all the records.  The filter array filters out all the records that don't meet your date criteria.  The formula I used is a sample based on one of my lists.  You need to adjust the date range and replace the field being compared with what you want to use.

What is Parse JSON?

The Output of the Filter Array is just an Array in Javascript Object Notration (JSON) format.  Parsing that array gives you access to the fields in the array .

Where is all the Dynamic Content coming from in the Apply to Each and Send Email stages?

That's coming from the data Parsed in the Parse JSON, which is coming from the filtered records in the output of the filtered array.

Hi PStork1,

Again, thank you for your reply.  I am afraid I still do not have enough information...   For example, what is inside the Parse JSON?  It requires some sort of data:

Hello,

I may have gotten through the JSON part, though I do not know yet as the flow fails before that.  Please see below:

Check the name of the date column you are using and that there is a value.  The error says WarrantExpiry is null.

Hi There.

That is the name, and... while some of the list items do not have data in that column, many do.  So, can there be no null values?

At least one of the rows in that column are coming in as null.  The portion I can see looks fine, but somewhere there is an empty value.  That is coming in as a null date and causing an issue with the filter.

Hi There,

Yes, there are null values.  Can there not be null values?  Can the null values be filtered out with some sort of "does not equal" function/filter?

Thank you once again for the reply.  I am out of the office this week, but I will try it over the weekend and report on my results.

Thank you,

Hi Pstork1,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.  I had some chaos in life to attend to.  I tried the new code you suggested and the flow still fails.  It fails differently, but it still fails:

RichHuryn_0-1625937043286.png

I am tremendously grateful for all the help and support you have given me.

It seems like it should be easier than this, and I cannot for the life of me understand why this is so difficult.  Do you have any other suggestions?

You...my friend...are a genius!  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I tested it and from all my tests... its works as expected and I receive an email when a record is within the time period specified and I do not receive an email when there are no records in that time period!

Thank you!!!
