Building a flow Excel (Business) "Add a row into a table" - Error 409

I am trying to isolate the problem but do not get through to any solution so I assume it is a bug.

What I originally wanted to do: save parsed JSON data into an Excel file line by line, so it can be used easily by non technical guys to proceed with analysis and review. I built the flow and recognized the Error 409 which happened every time.

Infrastructure

Newly created Excel File (using Excel 365) with just 3 columns defined as table with titles.

Saved into a Folder on SharePoint Online (autocreated with a team)

when constructing the flow everything gets recognized fine: table, the header for the atttributes:image.png

What I already did to isolate the problem:

  • closed all other windows to make sure no other process is active in the Excel Sheet (I am working in a test environment, so I am the only one)
  • made a copy of the original file, never openened it and used this in the flow
  • as a test tried to update just one single row with static data (see above)

Everythingl led to the same Error 409.

Complete Error message is:

{
"status": 409,
"message": "This won't work because it would move cells in a table on your worksheet.\r\nclientRequestId: a16d58dd-a49b-4c76-bebf-3898e6faf677",
"source": "excelonline-we.azconn-we.p.azurewebsites.net"
}

Re: Building a flow Excel (Business) "Add a row into a table" - Error 409

Hi,

I have made a test on side, it has the same issue with you description.

I have made two tables in the Excel, Table1 with limited  range, Table2 with entire column.

5.png

First, I added a  row into the Table1, the result was shown as below:

6.png7.png

Then, I added a row into Table2, it will has error:

8.png9.png

As you description, If we create a table with the Entire column, there will be no place for you to add a new row.

I will raise this to the MS team.

Thanks for you attention.

Best Regards,

Zhongys

Re: Building a flow Excel (Business) "Add a row into a table" - Error 409

sorry guys I need to Reply to myself - I was able to isolate it further down and I am pretty sure I found the root cause of this issue.

What I did:

  1. removed header in the Table - no effect
  2. changed the Table Definition from complete columns to a limited number of row - and guess what? it worked.Heart
  3. went back to my original intention and ran the function in a "For Each container" and? it worked!Heart

Reason for this error: The function behaved in a weird way: I defined the table A1:C100 and the Excel Function (Add row into a table) added the rows AFTER the table definition starting with row 101. Now it makes sense: if there is not end defined the function can't find the next row after endless...

I wonder if they ever tested this function? Does someone know how to report this to the MS support to file a bug?

Re: Building a flow Excel (Business) "Add a row into a table" - Error 409

@Peter68 - Been struggling with something, which was supposed to be a simple flow which initially worked.

Ended up pulling my hair out - and guess what?

"changed the Table Definition from complete columns to a limited number of row"

Limiting the Table Rows is all what was needed. Go figure why it initially worked...

Thanks mate!

Re: Building a flow Excel (Business) "Add a row into a table" - Error 409

I started to get this error and found it was because I put a filter on one of the table columns and had not cleared it.  I cleared it and problem gone
