Check date value and update choice option in another column

How can I check the date value from another column and update the choice option in another column.

 

I have setup this switch but believe I need conditions before this? or should it be done without a switch getting confused on the expressions and how it should be setup.

Columns: *these columns can be empty/null
CompletedLastTraining = manual entry of a date (dd-MM-yyyy)
TrainingDue = 365 days (dd-MM-yyyy) from CompletedLastTraining date
TrainingStatus: *choice column

Not Active: If the TrainingStatus is set to Not Active, do not run the workflow to check if that items TrainingDue date is Active, Due or Overdue

Active: If the TrainingDue date is less than 1 month before today’s date, set the TrainingStatus to Active For example, using today’s date 08/09/2020 if the TrainingDue date is less than the 09/08/2020 the item is Active. Also if today's date is the 08/09/2020 and the CompletedLastTraining date was the 10/10/2019 and the calculated TrainingDue date is 10/10/2020 this date should be set as Active not Overdue, unsure of how to explain this in logic form.

Due: If today's date is less than the TrainingDue date AND the TrainingDue date is greater than 30 days before today's date, set the TrainingStatus to Due and send an email (email should only send once, not on every run) also it should stay as due for the entire month. For example any date between 8/08/2020 - 08/09/2020 will have the status set to Due.

Overdue: If today's date is greater than the TrainingDue date, set the TrainingStatus to Overdue and send an email (email should only send once, not on every run). For example, if the TrainingDue date is beyond today's date 08/09/2020 it is set to Overdue. Also if today's date is the 08/09/2020 and the CompletedLastTraining date was the 10/10/2019 and the calculated TrainingDue date is 10/10/2020 this date should be set as Active not Overdue, unsure of how to explain this in logic form.

Are you able to provide an example for one of the choices?

 

I've tried to set the Due conditions but can't get it to work, are you able to confirm what I am doing wrong?

 

Due: If today's date is less than or equals to the Training Due date AND the Training Due date is greater than or equals to 30 days before today's date, set the Training Status to Due and send an email (email should only send once, not on every run)

Please try to replace 'dd/MM/yyyy' with 'yyyy-MM-dd'.

cheers, that sorted that part out.

 

I ended up working out the logic and getting it all to work however only the Overdue email fails.

 

The Overdue email does not fail if the Dynamic content is selected, however the date format is MM-dd-yyyy and I would like it dd-MM-yyyy. I did the same thing for the Due date email but that doesn't fail.

 

Overdue email fails if Expressions set like below:

formatDateTime(item()?['TrainingDue'], 'dd/MM/yyyy')
formatDateTime(triggerBody()?['TrainingDue'],'dd/MM/yyyy')

 

Error:
InvalidTemplate. Unable to process template language expressions in action 'emailOverdue' inputs at line '1' and column '20032': 'The template language function 'formatdatetime' expects its first parameter to be of type string. The provided value is of type 'Null'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#formatdatetime for usage details.'.

From the error message, it is because the TrainingDue contained in the current item is empty. You need to exclude items whose field is empty.

Manual entry CompletedLastTraining date fixed with formatDateTime(convertTimeZone(items('apply_to_each')?['TrainingDue'], 'UTC', 'AUS Eastern Standard Time'), 'dd-MM-yyyy')

 

However the calculated column (=[CompletedTraininigDate]+365) TrainingDue date displays incorrectly.
