Compiling data from multiple forms into one Sharepoint list using a flow, but how do I separate the multiple selections in a column?

I have created multiple forms (6 in total) that we are utilizing as help ticket requests that will feed workflows to assign specific tasks to team members in Planner and post messages to TEAMS alerting them of their tasks. At the same time another workflow will trigger a new entry in SharePoint lists and collect the data entries for extraction and mining later.

What I am struggling with is how to separate the various entries in the columns when the user was provided the option to select more than one.

For example "Which of the following do you need assistance with? You can see here that they get entered from my flow and are separated by semicolons. Employees can select more than one thing on a form that they needed assistance with, but I need to be able to extract from that which specific items they need assistance with so that we can track this data. Or is there a way to separate them in the Flow when I pull them from the Form initially that I am not aware?

Is there a way to create a flow that will do this for me automatically? We will be receiving a large number of requests and this is not my normal job duty. I honestly just taught myself how to do all of this over the past 5 days. While trying to do my other job duties (which are not IT related at all) so as much help as anyone can offer is very much appreciated!

Hi @Flygal7795 :

Could you tell me :

What is the meaning of "separate them in the Flow"?

Do you want to split "Which of the following do you need assistance with" according to ";", and then add multiple items separately?

  • For example if a use choose multiple options in "Which of the following do you need assistance with",for example he choose 4 options split by ";",it will create 4 items in your SP list.

I so ,you could add an "Apply to each" action and set it's body to

split([Which of the fo……],';')

Then move the add a new item action into the "Apply to each" action and then set the "Which of XXXX" field's value to

items('Apply_to_each')

Best Regards,

Bof

Thank you for replying, yes I want to split the options that the user has selected (I didn't know the correct terminology NOVICE here😆) so I already have apply to each step included in my flow where I pull all of the other data for my list from for the list, based on your instructions above am I able to add another apply to each step? if so where would it go in this flow or can I split the within the flow I have built? There are other questions that have options I need to split as well, so once I know how I can just repeat the process.

So I did try adding in the split but now i am getting this message

Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Create_item' inputs at line '1' and column '19492': 'The template language function 'split' expects two parameters: the string to split as the first parameter, the separator as the second parameter. The function was invoked with '1' parameter(s). Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#split for usage details.'.

Hi @Flygal7795 :

Something like this:

Thank you, I did this, but it still puts them all in the same column and does not separate them as I need them in order to be able to sort/filter. Is it the list settings? Even if I download it as an excel file.
