Condition Control Not Working due to Number Format?

Hi all,

I would really appreciate your help on an issue I am having.

Currently I have a flow (seen below) which has a condition to send an email to a particular user, depending if the Calculated Column on a SharePoint list is above £1500. When running this flow, it seems like it is not recognising the condition value, and instead, only sending to the 'Yes' Email flow.

Is there a way I can get flow to recognise the calculated column value? I have tried all the tests below and only can get it to follow the 'Yes' Flow.

I have even tried formatting the condition value e.g. 1500, 1,500, £1500.00, 1500.00...

Any ideas would be appreciated please.

Hmm. OK ... here's what my test showed, which is weird.

Initial column setup:

1 - Column.jpg

Calculated Column Setup

1a - Calculated Column.jpg

Despite setting the decimal on my calculated to 2, when it is pulled by the flow (no delay required, but I might add one anyway) it displays with MANY.

999.220000000000

Given how sensitive this thing can be to different cases, etc, perhaps we might want to format it in flow.

... 5m later ...

Yeah, well ... one reason I got a failure was that it passed the value as a string.

I had to add this to mine to get it to work:

float(triggerOutputs()?['body/currentLake'])

That's in the field side of the condition.

Solution(?)

Could you try placing your calculated column inside a float() expression?

So it might look something like this (don't just copy this😞

float(triggerOutputs()?['body/AdjustedValue'])

Perhaps a better way of handling this would be to create a float variable called adjValVAR (or whatever) in your flow which stores the value as a float using the above expression.

Here's mine working with basic inputs:

It's a little hard to tell as the image is so small, @Anonymous , mate, but is it possible that the email details in the "No" branch are just REALLY similar (or the same?) as the "Yes" branch?

Could you try testing it with an incidental flow, and some Compose actions?

(I appreciate that this isn't an answer, just trying to help steer, and get a bit more info)

Hi,

I made sure to have different subject lines for the Yes / No Options so I could do my tests.

Regarding incidental flow / compose. I'm not sure where to start with this. I did try use a GreaterThanOrEquals expression / convert to float but not sure if I did it correctly as it then stopped working completely.

It seems hard to debug these in terms of knowing what values they are using etc. All I need to know is how my £1500 value is being translated to flow!

EDIT - Sorry, I'd not seen it was a calculated column ... this can usually mess with things, but we should still be OK. The main issue might be just the calculation. Have you tried inserting a delay of 30s here?

OK, in the SharePoint list setup, what settings do you have for the column?

If you can screenshot it, that'd be great.

So that we can see how many decimal places it runs at, etc.

Also, whilst I'm looking at it, have a play around with the conversion expressions available in Power Automate. 🙂

Hi there,

Sure I'll have a look.

The column is calculated. It takes the unit value and multiplies it by a quantity. This then outputs as a currency to give me the Adjustment Value. As mentioned, I thought this would result in the value being something simple such as £1500.00, £1500, 1500.00, 1500..... but none of these seem to work.

Thank you.

OK, great, I'm just testing my end, cheers.

I would set the decimals on both, by the way, to 2.

Also, do you have validation/verification (I always get them mixed up) on the input on these? (I assume it's a non-issue, but still)

Hi,

No problem. I set the decimal places to 2. Also - thank you for your quick responses.

Regarding validation, this is something I'll invest some time into once I release the list for use beyond just myself. For now I just wanted to get some basic approval flow running that would go down one or another route depending if this adjustment value was higher or lower than 1500!

Thanks again.

Thank you so much mate its sorted it out. A relatively simple fix but this has had me stuck for about a week now. Definitely do need to have a bit more learning on the expression / format side of things as I'm a bit clueless in that area.

Thank you again - really appreciated.

Not a problem!

I'm about on Twitter (I'm a bit sweary there) if you need something like this off the cuff ... or ... y'know ... there's some vacancies at your place! 😅

Essentially, though, yeah, you'll feel your way in with the expressions quite quickly, and a lot of the stuff that you do in general flow actions can be done within them (saving actions).

The only thing I would say is that one should always detail what things do if one *is* putting more expressions/functions in. One of the main good things about Power Automate is that it helps dumbos like me automate something which would've taken an excel formula the length of your arm to do. The point there being that it should translate so that the next person can look at the flow, and go "... oh, yeah, I get that!"

You know?

Anyway, glad I could help!

Yeah for sure. Whats your Twitter? I'm just a student and will be leaving this job in a week but certainly would be great to keep in touch.

And yeah, I'll keep on learning. It's definitely a useful tool.
