Create a new folder in sharepoint with a sequence number

Hi there,

I'm trying to create a flow that creates a new child folder with a number on its name based on the number of child folders that already existis.

Example:

testfolder/1 - documents

testfolder/2 - scans

and when i run the flow it creates the child folder "3 - trash"

I need the number to be dynamically generated based on the number of files already in the folder.

Is this possible?

Thank you very much!

Hi!

I think you need to read all files?folders? both? currently stored in your folder, and let length() function do its magic to count them.

Do you already have a draft design from your flow? If so, please share a screenshot from your flow design, if not please let us know and try to help you from scratch

One more question:

Shall we count subfolders? files? both?

Thanx!

Hi again!

Two suggestions to create a folder in Sharepoint:

1.- Use "Create  folder" action block, or

2.- Follow steps detailed in this thread

https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/article/create-folder-in-sharepoint-list-using-microsoft-flow/

Please select one of this two options, make sure you can replicate the selected one, just create a dummy folder, and let us know your progress

One more question, which event shall trigger your flow? Do you need to execute it on a regular basis (every day, every week, etc)? Button trigger, and execute it manually? Do you need an specific event to trigger the flow? If so, which one?

Thanx!

I just need to count the folders, there's no files on any of those folders.

So i need to count the folders in two places:

General/@{triggerBody()['text_1']}/[SEQUENCE NUMBER HERE] - Contrato Continuidade Cliente @{triggerBody()['text_1']}(@{formatDateTime(utcNow(), 'yyyy')}

and

General/@{triggerBody()['text_1']}/[SEQUENCE NUMBER HERE] - Contrato Continuidade Cliente @{triggerBody()['text_1']}(@{formatDateTime(utcNow(), 'yyyy')})/[ANOTHER SEQUENCE NUMEBER HERE]@{triggerBody()['text']}

Estupendo!

Next question was... which trigger?

i want to trigger manually with some inputs. My objetive is to run it via flow bot on Teams, so, in the image i've posted where, i already have the inputs and they are working.

Hi again!

Once we know we will use a manual trigger...next step probably is, to get all files (+folders). 'Get files (properties only)' should do the magic.

So if you also follow the instructions from this post, you will be able to calculate nr of files (+folders)

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Power-Automate/Flow-to-Count-files-in-a-Sharepoint-Folde...

Please take a try and let us know your progress, so we can move into filtering folders only and do the right calculation

Buenas noticias!

So it seems we are close to a happy ending!

Now the tricky part... how to filter 'Get files' output by means of a 'Filter array' in order to get subfolders only. In this thread they do the opposite:

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/Microsoft-Flow-Get-files-properties-only-of-file-...

So, we need the following expression to do its magic

item()?['{IsFolder}']

Finally, I managed to put everything in a single test flow:

Hope this helps

Sem Título1.png

OMG Folder path input error? Try to add the following expression instead:

concat(outputs('Compose'),' Trash')

Please note to add an expression you need to follow these instructions:

https://flow.microsoft.com/es-es/blog/use-expressions-in-actions/

Also eview the way you added expressions to Filter array

Thanks!

do you know how can i overcome this issue?

thank you very much!

Sorry I missed your previous response!
Your Filter Array, I think you need to add symbol @ at the beginning of the expression since you added in advanced mode
Hope this helps
