Create new File in Sharepoint and update it's properties

I'm triggering a Flow from PowerApps, the Flow "Creates a file" in a Sharepoint Online Document library, I also want to update some additional columns of "Metadata" for the file, including some Custom columns.

In Flow, in the Create File dialog box, the only available fields I see are FileName and File Content, so I thought of using the "Update File properties" Action to add the values I need, but how do I get the "ID" of the File that just got created?

Essentially I want to create the file in a Sharepoint Online Doc library, and add some metadata columns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.FlowUpdateFileProperties.png

Re: Create new File in Sharepoint and update it's properties

So I did blog a workaround for this some time back, but recently I did the same steps as above when the "update file properties" action came out and and it worked for me...

Just now I made a powerapps trigger flow and dropped the two actions onto it. Note the ItemID in the second action...

Re: Create new File in Sharepoint and update it's properties

Hi @UB400,

I tried to create a similar flow and it is true that you cannot get the id of the file. I think this cannot be achieve so far.

Re: Create new File in Sharepoint and update it's properties

@v-monli-msft thank you for your response. I got a work around from Paul Culmsee, see the link to his Blog http://www.cleverworkarounds.com/2017/07/14/the-currently-best-way-to-update-sharepoint-document-met...

He has since that post, found a better way. Maybe he will update the Blog or make a post here. I was really grateful for his help in this issue.

Re: Create new File in Sharepoint and update it's properties

I built something this using a 2010 workflow on-prem in 2013 SP by following the instructions here:

https://sharepointprojectbrad.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/create-word-2013-documents-from-sharepoint-20...

It populates the document based on the list metadata using quickparts. The bad thing is it only goes one way so if someone edits the document directly it doesn't edit the list. I imagine you could write a second workflow for the document libary itself but I never took it that far.

If this works in Flow that would be awesome. Probably a lot easier to manage.
