Date formatting

Hello,

I have a SharePoint list that contains items and folder called "Archive".

One of list columns called "Date" contain dates formatted as date only (2/23/2024 for 23rd February 2024) without time.

I would like to have a flow that will start every day and move all the items that are older (Date column) than today to a folder "Archive".

I created a flow with condition "Date" is less than "formatDateTime(utcNow(),'d')"

But I get following error: "Unable to process template language expressions for action 'Condition' at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language function 'less' expects two parameter of matching types. The function was invoked with values of type 'Null' and 'String' that do not match.'."

Could you please advise?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

Please try this expression:

formatDateTime(utcNow(),'yyyy-MM-dd')

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

Hello Sunshine Gu,

I tried your formula and also this one:

formatDateTime(utcNow(),'MM/dd/yyyy')

But I am getting the same error 😞

Hi @Eeyore2005 , the problem is with the Date column, that is coming dynamically. Please add another condition above within that same block checking that Date field is not equal to null. That way the flow won't through error if Date field is null.

Hello @anwarluck ,

I added that condition and the flow is now running for more than 35 minutes... I am not sure it´s all right. When I checked Archive folder on SharePoint, it is empty.

Hi @anwarluck ,

The flow failed after cca 45 minutes, because Expression result of  Condition 2 was "false" and there was no dependent action.

But why is my date field coming from SharePoint null? There is data in that column....

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

When do you populate date column data in a SharePoint list? Is it after creating the "Get_items" control?

I guess you filled in the data in the SharePoint list after creating the "Get_items" control, so the date value always appears null.

If so, try recreating the Get Item control.

I made a test for your reference.

In my scenario:

If so, please try to recreate the 'Get items' control.

I did a test for your reference.

Hi @v-yetonggu-msft ,

I deleted all the steps from the flow and created it again based on your advice, but I got the same error:

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

Please post the list name in your 'Get items' control and a screenshot of the list name of the data source in SharePoint.

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

Hi @v-yetonggu-msft ,

Please see the screenshots below (I blurred the company name):

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

The Date column of your first item is null, so the first page of condition will show that the Date column is null.

Because you have a control to move files next, I suggest you move this folder to another list,and recreate the 'Get_items' control.

Hi @v-yetonggu-msft ,

I deleted the folder and created a separate list, re-built the whole flow and now it runs successfully, but the items with Date lower than Now were not moved 😞

The Expression result for each of the first 100 items is false, which is OK, because the list has 652 items and the items with date lower than today are at the bottom of the list... But still it should check all the items in the list...

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

Please add the 'Filter Query' condition in the 'Get_items' control.

In my scenario:

Hi @v-yetonggu-msft ,

I did what you proposed and there is another error. I have no idea which file is 1458 - when I copy the URL from Error details, there is no such site:

Eeyore2005_0-1698326296958.png

Hi @Eeyore2005 ,

I guess that the inability to find the data source is related to the folder you deleted.

Do you have a backup of the folder? Please re-upload it.

Then please try this expression.

vyetonggumsft_0-1698989101597.png

if(
  empty(item()?['Date']),
  '',
  formatDateTime(item()?['Date'],'yyyy-MM-dd')
)

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

Hello @v-yetonggu-msft ,

I restored everything from the Recycle Bin on my SharePoint site and I am still getting this error 😞
