Date from SP List changed by hours when used by PowerAutomate Flow

This is driving me absolutely insane!!!

All I want to do is copy a date from column and have it populate a "last week" column so I can compare movements week on week (this is for a building company, so need to see how many days have shifted).

Note: The screenshots are from a simple list for testing and the same behaviours persist from the main list and automation I am building

I have a manually entered date, column "Date"

The "calc date" is "date" minus 7 days

I then have a scheduled automation once a week to copy the "calc date" into the column "copied date" in this example. For some dates it works, and for other dates it it adding an hour, or subtracting 23 hours when PowerAutomate picks up the date from Get Items. I want to show the date without the time, and sometimes this is showing a day out.

This is driving me insane, and I cannot even think of a workaround, like adding or subtracting a few hours, as sometimes there is no difference.

Any help would be much appreciated. This should not be that hard!

Hey @GavinJones

This could be because you are in a different time zone and flow is following utc time and your SP list time is also different. Just confirm these things first!!!

Thanks Sundeep, but wouldn't this make all the times different by the same amount? In my main list, depending on the date, the copied date is sometimes +1hour, sometimes -23hours, and sometimes exactly the same date and time.

Hi @GavinJones

Maybe not the solution but definitely worth a moment to read through this:

Have you tried Expression or Compose?
formatDateTime(addDays(utcNow(),-1),'yyyy-MM-dd')
Today's date minus 1 day in the format: 2023-01-10

After "Get-Items" you can store the date in a variable and change it afterwards with Compose. So that it can be brought back with the update item in the correct format.

Thanks @Anonymous but the date/time is wrong at the point of GetItems output. Using the compose/expression would help but there is no constant value I can add or subtract as sometimes the date is out by +1 hour, sometimes by -23hours and sometimes it is correct without manipulation.

Have you checked my second Link?

Please look at the Time Zone Configuration in SharePoint an Power Platform Admin Center:

I did, thanks @Anonymous  - however as per lower down in that thread, I am not an admin in my client's tenant so cannot see this in PowerApps. I also I don't think this would explain the variances in date/time as they are not constant (but a time-zone difference would be constant).

Here are a few more examples from my list that hopefully might help explain further:

List Date (dd/mm/yyyy/hh:mm)PowerAutomate GetItems OutputDiff
14/07/2023 00:0013/07/2023 23:00-1hour

Hi @GavinJones so I setup something similar in my environment. Here my thougt about it...

My local Time looks like: 11.01.2023 08:45:00

Manually trigger a flow [Timestap] Format = 2023-01-11T07:45:00.7879703Z

SharePoint Get items [Output] Date:

nicowyss_0-1673423578919.png

So it looks like I have the same Problem here. Maybe can you Share the Get-Items Output .json.

And what I also not completely understand is the Goal in the SharePoint List. Do you want create and entry and the Flow should calculate Today's Date minus 7 Days? (The Copied Date Field is just for Troubleshooting Reasons)

Thanks for update me 🙂

Here I found some possible solutions - that i tested:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/power-platform/power-automate/converting-time-zone-po...

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Power-Automate-Workflow-returning-the-wrong-...

Hi @Anonymous - thanks so much for your help on this.

The purpose of the list is to track building plots over their inception to habitation. There are a few key dates used in the forecast, some are manually entered and some are calculated as an offset from the manually entered ones. The purpose of copying the dates into a "last week" version of the same column is to report variances in forecast each week - for example filtering the list on plots that have slipped back in the estimated completion date since last week. There is nothing using Today(), only calculations from other manually entered dates in the future.

The PowerAutomate flow works fine for any manually entered date, it is only the calculated dates that get thrown out, so I am presuming this is a bug. I have tried changing the time zone settings, but this just makes the time get thrown out by another random amount with no consistency to be able to have a workaround by adding or subtracting hours. I have tried changing the calculations, using date() etc, but these all work fine, it is only the output of get items where things start to go awry
