Difference between "Send an email notification (V3)" and "Send an email (V2)"







I am researching the differences between the 

"Send an email notification (V3)" Action which comes with the Mail Connection

and the

"Send an email (V2)" Action which comes with the Office 365 Outlook Connection.


I am fully aware that you need to have a license and online mailbox in order to use the Office 365 Outlook connection. That being said, If a user has the necessary elements to use either action, why might you choose one over the other?

Hi @fsadiq , Our organization primarily uses the v2 variety and tries to avoid the extra attachments setup when we can.  The users are understanding of the "from" PowerApps and this is better overall than from "Flow Owner" as that really confuses people.


The solution marked above by @ScottShearer does appear to give more information.  However, my organization is not in favor of the shared mailbox setup so v2 typically works best for us.

Dear Rob, where did you learn about the "100 emails every 24 hours" and "900 emails every 60 seconds" limitations? Can you share a link to the source with me, please?

It looks like the limits for Send an Email (v2) has been reduced:


Does this mean that it sends up to 100 emails per day per flow or 100 emails per day per user who created the flows?


If I create three flows, each with an instance of Send an Email (v3), would they send up to 300 emails total between the three flows?

I believe it is 100 emails per day per flow.

I've found some documentation on reddit that says the 100 email limit is per user per day, not per flow per day. Reached out to some individuals in my organization and they said it is per user per day. Still not 100% certain, but wanted to put this out there for anyone looking for an answer to this question.


How would one go about using a shared mailbox in the From:?


We were told to use V3 over V2 because V3 says the emails come from whereas V2 emails are "Sent By" the flow creator.  



You're getting mixed up: the v3 refers to Send an email notification (v3). V2 refers to send an email (v2). They are not the same actions and send an email (v3) is not a newer version of send an email (v2). Do't use the send an email notification (v3); it has problems and seems to fail regularly.


To use a shared mailbox to send an email you need to use the send an email from a shared mailbox action.

Sorry.  I used V3 and V2 as shorthand because I am lazy and impatient.  


Where is the "send email from a shared mailbox" option???  That seems like a good compromise.

Instead of selecting Send an email (v2) you select Send an email from a shared mailbox (v2)






I get an error though...


REST API is not yet supported for this mailbox. This error can occur for sandbox (test) accounts or for accounts that are on a dedicated (on-premise) mail server.


Do I need to add this shared mailbox from admin center? Because I do not have access.

The shared mailbox has to exist before it can be referenced in a flow. I don't know how you create a shared mailbox because that's done by others in my team.



I was finally able to get a Shared Mailbox set up in my org to test.  It looks good.


I just want to get around the awful (but understandable) Microsoft limits on V3 or 5 emails in 5 minutes and 100 emails in 24 hours.


Am I reading this correctly?  V2 is "limited" to 300 emails every 60 seconds.  But is it also limited to 30 concurrent requests?  

is the v3 email limitations for environment or tenant level?
