Difference between "Send an email notification (V3)" and "Send an email (V2)"

Hi,

MailConnector.png

OutlookConnector.png

I am researching the differences between the

"Send an email notification (V3)" Action which comes with the Mail Connection

and the

"Send an email (V2)" Action which comes with the Office 365 Outlook Connection.

I am fully aware that you need to have a license and online mailbox in order to use the Office 365 Outlook connection. That being said, If a user has the necessary elements to use either action, why might you choose one over the other?

Thank you for your assistance

Matt

The primary reason that I might choose to use the Send an Email notification action is that it shows as being from (the sender) "Microsoft Power Apps and Flow".  The Send an Email action shows as being from the individual whose credentials were used on the send an email connector - usually the Flow author.

The Send an email notification (v3) will send the email from Microsoft PowerApps and Flow. It can only send 100 emails every 24 hours.

The Send an email (v2) will send the email from you as the creator of the flow. It can send 900 emails every 60 seconds.

Hi @schuess3,

"Send an email notification (V3)" could add only one attachment into the email, but "Send an email (V2)" could add multiple attachments:

I can see from Microsoft's documentation:

The Send an email notification (v3) will send the email from Microsoft PowerApps and Flow. It can only send 100 emails every 24 hours.

Can anyone tell me in what exact context? Is this is per flow, per user or per tenant?

Thanks,
Paul

If you want to dynamically change the connection you won't be able to do that.

Is it any work around when user receive email From:- xyz@gg.com To: User Email ID instead of xyz can we hide this email id from user and put another email id? like: noreplypower@onmicrosoft.com OR Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate microsoft@powerapps.com like that?

@Anonymous

If you can deal with the limitations of Send an email notification, then that is your answer.

Your option to create a shared mailbox is likely your best choice.  You can name the shared mailbox almost anything you want.

@ScottShearer  - This is actually frustrating. Microsoft is actually recommending Power Automate as Successor to SharePoint Designer. Such basic things are missing in the products. Shared Mailbox may not be a good choice from security standpoint within certain organizations and policies might restrict them. Really surprised which such a low email threshold on Send email notification v3.  Product team should think from business standpoint. Have you come across any other solution?

Look at the "in response to" in my post. 🙂

I was looking for the information that says that "Send an email notification (V3)" has only 100 calls per day.

But I found it: Mail - Connectors | Microsoft Docs

What a terrible design of a connector! I am now working with my first two real Power Automate projects. And there are SO MANY limitations. And for the most basic of functionality. I never thought that sending an email from a no reply address should prove to be a problem...

Im working with moving deviation systems from SP on prem to SP online, and creating a brand new quality and deviation system. So many emails to set up so much problems with Power Automate :\.

I never thought I would miss SharePoint designer workflows SO MUCH!

Dear All,

I currently have a flow using "Send an email notification (V3)" which sends submitted kobo forms to some selected email addresses. The content been sent basically are text-based. I will want to include images as well. Thus, not just text like, I also want images been submitted on kobo should also be included in the flow. See below my code.

{
    "type": "object",
    "properties": {
        "form_title": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "_id": {
            "type": "integer"
        },
        "site_name": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "Enumerator_s_Name": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "purpose": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "Gender": {
            "type": "string"
        }
        "Full_name_of_HoH": {
            "type": "string"
    }
}

Thanks

How to trace back the flow author if send from "Microsoft Power Apps and Flow"?

Hi @RobElliott -  thank you for this confirmation.  However, from what I can determine, I need to use the v2 in order to property get my attachments to attach (using Array variable and the flow is NOT an approval flow).  Do you have a solution that would allow the use of Array variable attachments using v3 so the notification will not come from me as flow creator?

@cblackl2000 we always use a shared mailbox to send emails in our flows. That way it doesn't come from you but from, for example, a department like HR.
