Eliminate columns odata.etag and ItemInternal ID in get items of sharepoint list connector

Hi,

I am trying to use the 'Get items' connector of sharepoint in Microsoft flow. I want to be able to eliminate unnecessary information like "odata.etag", "ItemInternalID" etc. Could you please suggest a way to do so?

I want to do so because I want to convert just the sharepoint list content into csv format and the columns are not known to me before hand

The rest of those columns are system columsn that can't be removed from Get Items.  But you can use a Select Data Operation and map just the columns you want into a new data collection.  For example the screenshot below would create a new array that only includes the Title column from the Get items feed.

One of the advanced settings in the Get Items action is to restrict the columns returned to a specific view.  If you create a view in the SharePoint list you can limit the columns retrieved by Get Items to just the columns included in that view.

Not sure where to create the view in sharepoint list

I got to the save view part in sharepoint list, but still getting all columns like author, odata.etag etc.

Can't be removed?  Or won't be removed?  Seems to me that this is an issue and a big one.  Our data doesn't have "System Columns" visible in it.  What is visible is being adulterated by "System Columns".  The process to get them should allow for the ability to ignore them.  Instead we have to either hard code a "Select" or work some magic after the fact to try and strip out the resulting json "System Columns".  Those are not acceptable solutions, and for something that in my opinion should not be populating the output to begin with.  Please advise.

Unfortunately, neither you nor I wrote the tool and Microsoft clearly doesn't agree with your opinion.  Power Automate actions work the way they do.  You can either work with them and use the workaround provided or look for another tool.

Completely agree.  My point is to try to make Microsoft aware that there is an issue via their own platform forum.  They can change their code.  We can't as you pointed out.  I hope to make a dent.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting.  It is very doubtful that they will change this behavior.  The action uses API calls that are in place for other reasons.  They won't change it just for this.

True, but they could implement an ignore "System Columns" in the component.  That would be a much better solution than requiring hard coding in my opinion.  Good programmers know that hard coding is a big deal.  Forcing no-coders to have to hard code to use their components is completely out of line with regards to that ideal.  I hope they wake up and realize that.

There is a way to do this, it just takes a little work.
