Email attachments based on condition expression

Dear Team

Is it possible to set something called "Do Nothing" on (if statement) expression in mail attachment field ?

Example: if attachment was uploaded on the form, send an email with the attachment uploaded, otherwise send the same email without attachment.

I don't want to use the big condition (Action), because my flow is long and this action will make me rewrite emails so many times with and without the attachment.

I tried to leave the expression (false parameter) empty like "" and tried just to use one parameter (the true parameter) without using the false one, nothing worked giving the below error:

Parameter 'Attachment Name' cannot be null or empty.

My (if statement) expression works well when attachment is set on the form, so nothing wrong with the if statement, I just want to know how to get rid from (false) parameter and do nothing.

Hello @ramihajjiri ,

you can use an array variable for the attachments. Loop through all attachments and append them to an array variable in the format below:

{
  "Name": <DisplayName>,
  "ContentBytes": <AttachmentContent>
}

Note:
<..> are placeholders, replace them with the dynamic content

That way you can use the variable in the 'Send an email' action, no matter if it has 0 or X attachments.

I wrote a post on this topic a few months ago.

I can't Parse JSON on (Attachment question) without passing an attachment to the question, it gives me the below error on testing:

Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Parse_JSON' inputs at line '1' and column '19416': 'Required property 'content' expects a value but got null. Path ''.'.

Then you'll need a 'Condition' to check if there's any attachment. If there's attachment, store it into the variable. If there isn't, keep the variable empty. And then use the array variable in the notifications.

This also doesn't work because email attachment field doesn't accept null variables, so I have to use (Send An Email) twice, one in the (true) side of the condition attaching the attachment. and one in other side (the false side) without attaching the attachment, so this makes me write the same email twice. So I got back to my first problem and back to the main question of this topic.

So that's why I want to use (if statement) expression on this field as:

if(variable is not null, attach the variable, otherwise "DO NOTHING")

Still not figured out how to create this (do nothing) thing.

Email attachment accepts empty array variables.

Hello @ramihajjiri ,

applying the post I already shared on your flow, you should move the 'Get file content' right after 'Parse JSON', then 'Append to array variable' all the attachments.Once you have the attachments in the array, you can use the variable in the 'Send an email' action.image.png

The flow completed with no errors but without attachments 😕

Hello @ramihajjiri ,

you forgot the 'Get file content' and then build the array with the attachments after the 'Parse JSON' action.

{
  "Name": <DisplayName>,
  "ContentBytes": <AttachmentContent>
}

Note:
<..> are placeholders, replace them with the dynamic content

it passes me an error which needs the names of the attachments 😕

I was having the same issue and then realized I had the condition set to "null" instead of leaving it empty. Once I removed that it worked as expected. Thanks for the tip!

Could you please clarify the solution, I do have the get file content but if the FORMs does not have attachment the flow does not work.
