Excel Insert Row - 409 Error

I have a very basic flow that reads the file listing from an existing Dropbox folder, and inserts every file name found into an Excel table. Triggered by a schedule, the flow runs 6:30am every morning. If the Insert Row action fails, a notification is sent to my Inbox.

Almost every morning when I get up, I find one or two failure notifications in my Inbox. Sometimes, only one. Sometimes, none, but when I then check the flow history, there have been errors anyway, but the notification has failed.

The Dropbox folder listing action never fails, and takes 1-2sec. The rest takes about 2min for two dozen files. The Excel table contains about 400-500 rows, but started out empty.

When the Insert Row action fails, it's always with a 409 conflict error. And almost always with a different file (some files are new each morning, others return in multiple listings).

Can there be any conceivable reason why Microsoft Flow fails to insert rows in a table in Microsoft Excel on Microsoft OneDrive almost 10% of the time?

Or is Flow / Insert Row / Notification this unreliable? (That would make the entire Flow tool useless.)

Hi @florismk,

Would you please share your Flow configuration?

I suspect the conflict is caused by duplicate files between the source and destination.

We could first create a condition to check if the file already exists within the Excel, if yes, update it, otherwise, create a new row.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your repy! I've included a screenshot of the flow below.

As for your hypothesis: duplicate filenames in the Excel list are expected, as the content of the folder is almost identical from run to run, just a few files deleted and a few added. So of all the Insert Row actions that succeed, 90-95% are duplicate filenames. (Also, I wouldn't even know how to apply a unique constraint to an Excel column.) So the problem is definitely not with duplicate filenames; filenames repeat an average of 12 times in this list.

Here's the screenshot. The first two actions never fail. The Insert Row action fails once-twice per run (though not in the last few days). The notification action has also failed a couple times.
