FInput variables issue

I have setup a variable on the when record is selected. But I have made it optional, with the view that if they leave it blank then then don't want to use batching (which will be most of the time) .

However if you leave the field blank it then doesn't create the variable when you try and use it, so it throws up an error, I discovered that the only way around this is error handling (run after if Failed). So I setup the flow like this:-

the logic begin that if an error occurs it set the variable to be 99999999. but what i want is once I fix the error to carry on with the same process as if there wasn't an error. this layout seems require both events to occur. I want an either event condition.

So i need to either find a better way of dealing with the first problem or a way of Handling the error better.

Thanks

Troy
