Flow to send reminder to email when a start date approches

I am trying to create a flow that will check employees start date and send reminder email to HR and other departments 5 days before start date. I have already created an onboarding list with a column ‘Start Date’ to get the start date of an employee. I have tried to use the automated template and tried to create from blank but no luck.

I have checked other forms for this solution but the expression shows Invalid.

Here is a what have so far.

Thank you in advance!

Re: Flow to send reminder to email when a start date approches

@Henok22

Hi there!   So, I came at this the other way (and I don't do expressions really well) so I ended up with something like this:

  • Recurrence trigger running once a day
  • Initialize a string variable for the StartDate
  • Add 5 days to utcnow() using "Add to time" (same as your expression, I imagine)
  • Set the variable to the calculated time, and formatting it to match the MM/dd/yyyy format.
  • Get the items in the list
  • Condition to match the Start Date on the list with the varStartDate.  If there's a match, send an email...if not, keep on truckin'.

The weirdness for me was that my data was in Excel, so the dates were stored as those weird Excel date format integers, but the SP version of that should work ok.

Let me know what you think.

@edgonzales  Thank you!

I have just found a solution for it.

Used this expression  formatDateTime(addDays(utcNow(),7),'MM-dd-yyyy').

used URL decoder to get the actual value of the column b/c the space was an issue.
