Holiday Party Raffle Flow - Trouble with Outputs

@aprildunnam

Post Solution Update for anyone reading this post: Solutions are scattered throughout so there are multiple posts marked as solutions. @fchopo and @Paulie78 were both very helpful in sorting this out! Thanks again to April Dunnam for her contest drawing video which is so timely.

Hello,

I am working on an app that will randomly generate winners from a list of employees. The app is mostly built thanks to April Dunnam’s awesome Template Tuesday: Power Apps Contest Drawing Template tutorial, but I’m having trouble replicating the flow steps.

Here is a snapshot of my data source. In April's video the Status column is called "Outcome". I'm not sure if she was using a Choice or single line of text field if that makes a difference.

SPListSettings.png

Here is the start of my flow:

Flow1.png

Here is my initial Compose action which is identical to the expression in April's video:

Flow2.png

The issue is occurring after the above Compose step. In April's video, she creates 2 more Compose steps and is able to select the Title and ID outputs generated from the first Compose step. That is not happening for me. The only dynamic content available is something called "Outputs".

I'm hoping my mistake is something simple and easy to fix. My virtual holiday party is fast approaching. I'm sure the employees will love this so I would like to get it working. It's perfect for holiday parties in the time of Covid-19. Let me know if you need additional information to troubleshoot.

I wasn't able to successfully download April's Raffle App/Flow GitHub solution since I'm not a techie and am not familiar with downloading solutions yet, but here is the link in case you would like to take a look at it.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello @tagustin2020

You could get the Winner Name using the following expression:

outputs('compose')?['Title']

And the Winner ID:

outputs('compose')?['ID']

To write those expressions inside the compose action, in case you never did it before, you should selec the expression option:

Hope it helps!

you need single quotes in your oData expression, not doubles:

Status ne 'Winner'

Hello!

I'm happy to report that I figured out where I was off. As soon as I entered the word Winner in the Update SharePoint List and entered a zero for Present (they must be present to win), the SharePoint list updated correctly.

StatusFixSS.png

The last step was to respond back to Power Apps with the Winner Name output. I didn't need the ID for the sake of the app interface.

Thank you both so much for your help. I wish you a safe, happy holiday season!

Thank you for the assist Ferran! The output formulas seem to be working now, but I am getting the following error message.

FlowCheckerSS.png

Here is a screenshot of my Get Items Step. I'm wondering if it isn't happy with the Filter Query. April's column was named "Outcome" and I named mine "Status". Would that make a difference? Also, I'm not sure if her Outcome column was a Choice or Single line of text column. Mine is Single line of text. Would that be throwing anything off?

Hello again Ferran,

I realized I broke things when I renamed the Get Items step so I reverted back to the step descriptor. I ran a test and got a BadRequest Error Message.

Here are the details of the error message.

Here is a different view of my SharePoint list if that helps any.

Hello @tagustin2020

@Paulie78 is right! You should use single quotes inside OData expressions.

Hello,

Thank you for catching that. I fixed the quotes issue and the error messages went away. I added the final step of responding to the Power App, but I'm missing something as clicking on the DRAW button doesn't do anything either in the app or SharePoint List. The flow is showing that it ran successfully so I must just be missing a step. What I need it to do is record the word Winner in the Status column next to the person whose name was picked. How do I do that? The current strategy of simply responding to the Power App with the Winner Name output alone isn't achieving the desired effect.

WinnerOutputSS.png

The OnSelect formula for my DRAW button in the Power App is:

Set(varPlaySpinner,true);GeneralRaffle.Run();Refresh('Holiday Raffle');Set(varPlaySpinner,false)

When I hard code the word Winner in the Status column next to a name (my own of course), the name is highlighted in the gallery to the left and I can add it to the list of Winners on the right by clicking on the Present icon which of course is all accomplished by in app formulas.

I really appreciate the two of you helping me out!
