Holiday Request Approval Failure

Hi - hope you can help.

I have an approval flow set up for holiday requests.

In testing, the sequence has been as follows:

  • Item added to list (i.e. details of a holiday request)
  • approval email sent to specific user's email address
  • when approved/rejected, person requesting receives an email, the list item is updated

This all works fine.

However, depending on who's available, I'd like to allow a member of staff to choose who the approval request is sent to.

I added a list column 'Approval by?' (type: person/group) so they could select the approver.

Then I set up the approval email to go to 'Approval by? email' using the dynamic content tool.

However, when I run the flow, I now get an error message:

BadRequest. The request failed. Response content: '{"status":400,"message":"One or more recipients are invalid.\r\nclientRequestId: 1775cb98-acfb-431a-852a-11c2cac53a3a","source":"office365connectionprovider-northeurope.db3-ase-001.p.azurewebsites.net"}'.

Is there anything I can do to make this work?

Approval From? field is set up as a Person/Group type.

This is the set up of my approval email:

Thanks

Re: Holiday Request Approval Failure

Hi AngelinaSpring,

Sorry for late response. Currently, both PowerApps and Microsoft Flow don’t support columns that support multiple values or selections.

So when you enabled the “Allow multiple selections”, you will get the error message.

Re: Holiday Request Approval Failure

Hi AngelinaSpring,

I assume that your scenario should be when an item is created in a list, send an approval email, then send an email to user who start the request with the approval result and update the approval result to the list.

In the list, there is a Person or Group column named “Approval by?”, so that requester can select approver. About the “Approval by?” column, have you allowed multiple selections?

To test this issue, I add a Person or Group column in my list, then create a flow likes below.

In the To field of the action “Send approval email”, I select the dynamic content “Approved By? Email”. The email address is valid here, and the flow works fine.

Hope this could be a reference for you. Please try again with it.

Re: Holiday Request Approval Failure

Hi Mabel

Thank you for your response.

You are correct about how the scenario should run.

Below is a screenshot of my 'approval from?' field. I have allowed multiple selections - should I remove this??

All of my other settings look the same as yours, yet it still fails when running.

Re: Holiday Request Approval Failure

Hi Mabel

I have change the column for 'Approval From?' to allow a single selection only and this has worked!!

I would never have even considered to look at that, but it makes sense.

Thank you!

Re: Holiday Request Approval Failure

Thank you

Yes, I've fixed the error by allowing users to only select one person (changed field type to prevent multiple selections).

All working now, tho I have posted another thread about flows for amends or cancellations of list items:
