How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Hi,
I have a MS Flow setup like this:

Form has 1 question Flow triggers from that Form Flow has Update a row in an excel table

It all works fine as long as i manually type text in the "Key Value" field in the "Update a row" part of my flow - see pic.

However, I don't want to manually type text in the "Key Value" field. I want Flow to automatically know which row to update in the table based on the Form response.

I can find no examples of how to do this - if you have a working example please explain.

Should I even be using Form, or should I be using something else to get the answers and update a spreadsheet.

Thanks

Tried to find examples, can't find.

The Microsoft Forms connector is fairly limited with very few definitions to work with. I'd personally send the Form results to a SharePoint List, then grab all of the data and content I need from that SharePoint List.

Flwo can certainly dynamically fill in fields for you. If you could provide an expanded screenshot of your Flow and steps, and of any detailed error messages you're receiving we could likely better assist you.

Thanks but I see no option here to put pictures. I posted the same question on stack overflow though with pic:

I assume there's some way to get the question from the Form submission and put that in the key value field. I can expand my entire flow if u need.

To add screenshots, you click the Photos button.AddScreenshots.png

As for your issue, you need a Get rows present in table step and/or a Get tables step before you perform an Update a row. To call dynamic content, you must first add the step that provides the dynamic definitions. So, you'll nearly always have a Get action before an Add or Update action.

Hi @Rnorman3 ,

You could consider adding a question to Forms, which is used as Key Value, and the user needs to select the question when filling out the form.

Re: How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Thanks Barry, this is the closest I can see so far to a solution.  However, for me, I cannot select "F Question" for the Key Value.  "F Question" doesn't appear in my "Add dynamic content" selection list.  I only see:

Answer to the question

Email address of responder who submitted the form.

Timestamp when a new response is submitted

Unique identifier of the response. Use with 'Get response details' action to fetch the content of the form response.

How do you see "F Question" and I can't?  In the form i have made the question "Required".

Re: How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Wait a sec Barry, i think you have an error here.  When you select "F Question" from the dynamic selections, the form will return "The answer to the question" not the question.  Is this the case?  In this case it will not work.

Re: How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Thanks Brad, but what I need to get is the Question, so I can update the answer in the correct row in the table. So far no one has been able to explain how to get the Question from the form submission. Someone did reply "just select FQuestion" but sadly "Question" was the name of their question in the form, which actually returns the answer which is of no use.

So far it seems not possible to update a row in an Xcel table from the response to a form.

Re: How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Sadly i'm realizing that using sharepont forms is s**t, because there's no way to get a unique identifier/key from a submitted form.  The only thing that gets passed from the submitted form is the answer, which is useless when trying to update a list item - afterall you can't find the correct list item to update if you only have the answer!

Re: How to update row in Excel using MS Form=>MS Flow=>Excel sheet

Did you ever find out how to do this?  I'm trying to do something similar and have been scouring the internet to try and find the answer.

Thanks
