Making a flow that sends an email to an address found in a lookup field in Sharepoint.

Hello everyone.

I want to make a flow that sends an email when an item is created in my list, to the email in that item. However, the email is a lookup to my Persons list, and it seems that flow cannot read lookup fields. I had 2 thoughts on how to solve this.

  • Either I could make a sharepoint designer workflow to first copy the lookup field to a hidden regular text field, then have the flow read this field. But when I tried that I could not make the condition or do until actions work. I want flow to wait until the field has been populated, then send a mail. This seems to be related

  • Alternatively, maybe there's a way to look into the Persons list and simply take the email from there? I don't know flow that well, so maybe I missed this, but I did not see a way.

Re: Making a flow that sends an email to an address found in a lookup field in Sharepoint.

Hi @Anonymous,

Microsoft Flow supports reading data from Lookup type, but only with the single value.

For Multiple value enabled Lookup fields, currently there is no way to make it work in Microsoft Flow.

Check the blog below for more details:

Setting SharePoint's Person, Choice, and Lookup fields

There is an idea submitted for supporting Multiple value enabled lookup fields, check:

Support for multi-values fields

For single value lookup fields, flow supports reading and writing data.

Michael
