[ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hello,

I am new to flows but am extreamly intested in getting my hands dirty!

I've been trying to make a list have a review date (xx.xx.xxxx) then sending a email to owner when that date has occoured.

Anyone have any documentation or just a photo to show the workflow?

Many thanks

Re: [ Question ] Review date flow

Hi Packlimo,

I assume that you want to send an email to someone when a review date is equal to today’s date.

Say you are using the SharePoint list, and you have a Date column(date only) in the list.

Then you could consider to create a flow likes below to send the owner an email when the date has occurred.

I add a Condition in the flow to check if the date is equal to today’s date.

The function I am using in the Condition is:

@equals(items('Apply_to_each')?['Date'], formatDateTime(utcnow(),'yyyy-MM-dd'))

PS: You should know the date format in your list first, then format today’s date to the same format using formatDateTime function

More details about formatDateTime function, please check it at here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/logic-apps/logic-apps-workflow-definition-language

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hi @v-yamao-msft i've followed these instructions as per image below - BUT

But condition returns false, even thought I do have a document in the library that has a notification date of today.

Can you give me any insight?

Condition = @equals(items('Apply_to_each')?['Notification'], formatDateTime(utcnow(),'dd/mm/yyyy'))

Thanks.

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hi!

I usually recommend to add a Compose action block before evaluating a condition, and assign it the dynamic content to be evaluated (in your case the Notification column). This way, after flow execution you can go to "Run history" and inspect the content of the element that is evaluated in the condition; in order to make sure it matches your expectations

Hope this helps

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

HI @efialttes thanks for the reply.

I have tried that - but still retunrs false.

Everything is matching - no problems there.

I'm still wondering about international times - should i be added UTC+10 possibly?

Thanks in advance

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hi!

That's why I usually recommend to inspect the values that are evaluated in the condition. Sometimes you are unsure if the format arriving is the expected one, that's the best way IMO to proceed.

Hope this helps

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hi!

Can you share a screenshot with the outputs of the Compose action block? You can take it from any of the entries in Run History (I mean, any execution after you updated your Flow with the Compose action block)

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Screen shot of output from comppose:

So have added formatting to match

@equals(item('Apply_to_each'')?[Notification_Date],formatDateTime(utcnow(),'YYYY-mm-ddT13:00:00Z'))

Now getting errors - thanks again - but i just cant see where i'm going wrong!

Re: [ Question ] Flows - Email update

Hi!

From the expression you have already shared, I am assuming all the dates on your "Notification Date" column include 'T13:00:00Z' as time reference. If so, I would try with the following:

@equals(items('Apply_to_each'')?[Notification_Date],concat(formatDateTime(utcnow(),'YYYY-MM-dd'),'T13:00:00Z'))

In order to select the right date format, this link is extremely useful

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/standard/base-types/custom-date-and-time-format-strings

Hope this helps
