Remove embedded images before forwarding e-mail

I have what I think should be an easy problem to solve, but I have searched and not found anything that addresses my specific issue.  I am working on a flow that is triggered by an incoming e-mail.  I want to use the body of this e-mail in a subsequent message.  The challenge I have is the original e-mail has a couple of logo images embedded.  I want to remove these image and forward the e-mail.  I've tried HTML to Text, but I lose my formatting, which I want to retain.  Is there a simple way to remove embedded images from the HTML before using the body text in a separate message?

Hi @DataFun

Yes you can remove inline images from email body

I have developed process to remove inline images

Input email body

Nived_Nambiar_0-1680338038699.png

Output Email Body (as response)

Nived_Nambiar_1-1680338060554.png

I have developed a demo flow for this

Nived_Nambiar_2-1680338146926.png

Logic used here is, since email body is in HTML format, so the images would be in <img tag, using that i split the text and then extract upto image html content and then image html content with nothing in email body and finally send an email 🙂

Step 1: Use trigger to receive email

Nived_Nambiar_3-1680338443857.png

Step2:  Initialize a New_Email_Body variable by passing Body of email as value

Nived_Nambiar_4-1680340977844.png

Step 3:  Create a variable called as temp_email [ will be using temporary purposes]

Nived_Nambiar_5-1680340990796.png

Step 4: Initialize index variable, used as iteration index of loop.

Nived_Nambiar_6-1680341049447.png

Step5: use apply for each, pass the values in the apply for each to iterate

Nived_Nambiar_7-1680341105288.png

expression:  split(triggerOutputs()?['body/body'],'<img')

[This is to split the email body using <img tag which is image tag]

Step6: Use condition to check whether the index is zero or not

Nived_Nambiar_8-1680341187491.png

Step 7: If the step 6 condition is false, below steps are  performed.

Step 7a.  use slice action to take the image html component on compose

Nived_Nambiar_9-1680341273100.png

expression:   slice(items('Apply_to_each'),0,indexOf(items('Apply_to_each'),'>'))

Step 7b:  use expression to replace image component obtained from Step 7a on email body with nothing ('') and set it on temp_email variable

Nived_Nambiar_10-1680341372437.png

Expression: replace(variables('New_Email_Body'),concat('<img',outputs('Compose_2'),'>'),'')

Step 7c. set the temp_email variable on New_Email_Body variable [as we cannot set New_Email_Body on New_Email_Body , that is why i have temp_email in between.]

Nived_Nambiar_11-1680341531309.png

Step 8. Outside the condition, inside the apply for loop, use increment variable to increment the value of index variable by 1 [ as it is going to next iteration]

Nived_Nambiar_12-1680341600518.png

Step 9: Use send email to send email with New_Email_Body (as it is the variable having updated email body)

Nived_Nambiar_13-1680341673587.png

[make sure you use HTML option to send message as shown above]

Hope it helps 🙂

I applied these steps and the flow ran, but my images were still in the e-mail but not displayed.  The HTML doesn;t use img.  Here are the lines with the images:

Can you explain how?

Hi @cb23,

please create a new topic.

Welcome to my web site.

Hey, I tried this flow and got the following error details:

Unable to process template language expressions for action 'Apply_to_each_2' at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language function 'split' expects its first parameter to be of type string. The provided value is of type 'Null'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#split for usage details.'.

Any ideas how I can fix it? Thanks 🙂

Dear sir, if you share video presentation for same is very helpful(rajangovekar.rg@gmail.com)
