Retrieve email addres from approval summary

Hi all,

I need the name of all approvers that reject an approval when creating an approval step in Flow, where all approvers have to approve.

First of all, I am neither a programmer nor close to it. I hardly work with expressions, so please be as beginner friendly as possible Smiley Wink

We assume a list, let it be bills, where any new entry has to be approved by multiple approvers (all board members). So I created a flow with modern approval of the kind "Every approver needs to approve". As long as everybody approves, no problem, but as soon as one does not, I need the name of the person, that did not approve including the comment he might have left in the comment section.

Unfortunatly the names of the approvers are only stored in the approval summary as plain text (maybe I am wrong, could not find it anywhere else by now), so how can I retrieve the name of the "not approver" to send this back to the requestor?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Re: Retrieve email addres from approval summary

Hi @IngoTSV,

I have no idea to retrieve the name of the "Not Approver" from the Approval Summary dynamic content of "Start an approval" action in Microsoft Flow currently, but you could consider take a try with the following workaround as an alternative way.

I have made a test on my side and please take a try with the following workaround:

  • Add a proper trigger, here I use Flow Button trigger.
  • Add a "Start an approval" action, specify Assigned to field value.
  • Add a "Apply to each" action, input parameter set to Responses dynamic content of the "Start an approval" action.
  • Within "Apply to each" action, add a Condition, left input box set to Approver response dynamic content of "Start an approval" action, right input box set to Reject. Within middle drop down, choose is equal to.

Within "If/yes" branch of Condition, add a "Send an email" action.

The flow works successfully as below:10.JPG

Re: Retrieve email addres from approval summary

Hi Chris,

I think some of the fields that are available now, must have been added very recently. I am pretty sure a field "Approver name" and "Approver email address" were not available, when I tried to figure this out last time. But I am happy with the solution and it is exactly, what I will do. So thank you very much for your help!!!

Cheers
