Send array from my json object to PowerApps app

Hello,

I simply would like to show my data in a ResultGrid in my PowerApps app but I can't figure out how to isolate the "results" attribute on my json response formed as followed :

{
  "results": [
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample"
    },
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample",
    },
    ...
  ],
  "_links": {
    "base": "/employees",
    "next": "?lastUpdateDate=2019-12-19T01:46:02.995&limit=10&start=10"
  },
  "size": 10,
  "start": 0
}
I actually don't need the other attributes in my app and yes I am using Power Automate to retrieve data from my API because I did not find any way to do it directly in Power Apps.

Here is a screen of my flow :

Two things

1) Grab the results array from one of your runs and use that as sample data to generate the schema in the respond action.  Here's what the sample would look like based on the run you showed.

[
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample"
    },
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample",
    },
    ...
  ]

2) I'm assuming you are starting the flow from Power Apps using a Flowname.run command.  Put that command inside a ClearCollect() to generate a collection from the JSON data that is returned.  Like this

clearCollect(mydata,flowname.run(any parameters));

Then you can bind the collection to a data table to display the results.

Oh ok ! I was pasting as a schema something like

{
  results : [
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample"
    },
    {
        "data1": "dataExample",
        "data2": "dataExample",
        "data3": "dataExample",
    },
    ...
  ]
}

but it's working with the content of the array only, thank you !

Btw I also had to create a variable to store the results tab since the API response returns other things.

  • Add a DataTable object to the power app.
  • Set the Items property to the Collection
  • Edit the Fields in the property panel to select which fields in the Collection will show in the table.

Is it possible to create an editable grid using Datatable?

I need to perform CRUD operations as well.

Data Tables in Power Apps are Read Only.  You can use a Gallery to create an editable Grid, but its fairly difficult to save the records back to the data source.

I am facing similar problem. Seeking guidance/solution on the subject.

I am trying to get data from FLOW. I can see the data as string array but am not able to get it in canvas for manipulation to save it to the collection.

Attached screenshot.

My steps are :

1) Created a flow

mthaker_0-1630098693821.png

2) Output in returnValue is :

{
"mysqlrslt": "[{\"AppName\":\"App1\",\"AppURL\":\"http://TestApps/applications/App1.asp\"},{\"AppName\":\"App2\",\"AppURL\":\"http://TestApps/applications/App2.asp\"}]"
}

3) In canvas : On buttonclick I provide following :

ClearCollect(testCollect, myTestFlow.Run());

Where is the fault ! Seeking guidance/solution please.

You can't return an array using the Respond to Power Apps action.  You can only return an object with simple properties.  To return an array you need to use the HTTP Response action.

Using the Respond action this can be achieved and with help of formulas we can construct back to the collection again in PowerApps.

Thank you! Appreciate this!

That will work as long as the only JSON you are sending back is basic text.  But if you have embedded objects, complex data types, or arrays you won't be able to convert the results back into a usable collection.

Thanks 👍

That means for objects/arrays, we require HTTP, as mentioned earlier, or one shall manipulate it as BLOB for normal pass!
