Set Title column to hidden

Hi *,

can someone tell me how to set the default column "Title" of a SharePoint list to hidden with a flow and HTTP request?

I've been searching the internet for hours, but unfortunately haven't found anything so far.

Hi @Anonymous,

Just to double check. You want to hide the Title column from a view in your list, correct?

You could use the removeViewField method in the URI:

Below is an example of that approach.

Be aware that if you remove the linktitle column you won't be able to open the item anymore. So, I wouldn't recommend this. Secondly, it is better to modify a custom view and leave the all items view as default.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I have now tried to recreate the same.

But unfortunately, the flow hangs then, or it breaks off after 10-15 minutes by itself.

I would also prefer a solution with which I can only hide the title column.

By default, the title column is also set to mandatory.

Since I don't need the title column, how can I change that ?

Can you share a screenshot of your configuration?

Apologies if it wasn't clear, but you would need to replace the listname and viewid variables by your values in the URI field. It might be useful to double check those values if they are correct.

You can find those in the settings of your list and in the allitems view settings. Below is an example on how to check those.

1. Go to your List Settings. Over here you can find the ListName (highlighted in yellow). But also your Allitems view. Click on the Allitems view.

2. You can find the ViewId in the address bar of your browser (highlighted in yellow, right after view=). Be aware you might need to some replacing because the GUID is url encoded. In other words %2D is -, %7B is a {, etc.

Btw, you can also uncheck the Title over here if you just want to hide the Title field manually instead of via a flow 😁

For the example above that would lead to the following URI:

Somehow today is not my day 🤔

I have now started several attempts, but all with the same negative result.

The flow runs for about 10-15 minutes and then aborts with ‘BadGateway’.

My testflow consists of only two elements:

Title is spelled correctly here (Titel in German).

It would be enough for me right now if I knew how to set the title column to not required.

Do you have any idea about this?

Screenshot 3 looks like the right way of removing the field. The only thing I am not sure of is that it looks like it has a trailing space character after the guid. Is that correct, or does it just appear like that in the screenshot?

Second thing which draws my attention is the body. I see you used Titel instead of Title. Have you tried it with Title or LinkTitle, the internal names of the fields?

Alternatively, you could use another Send an HTTP request action with a GET query to check what the current fields of the view are. That is also a good way of checking if you got the correct URI for the POST query as well 🙂

I have now tried all 4 variants again. This time with the English word 'Title' and no longer with the German word 'Titel'. Unfortunately, again without success. The flow runs for about 10-15 minutes and then aborts again with 'Bad Gateway'. I will give up at this point and focus more on my first idea of just hiding the title column instead of deleting it.

At least I already managed to set the title column to Required = false:

Using the similar method, I have now also tried to set the column to hidden:

But now a strange phenomenon occurs.

After this flow is completed, the column is no longer visible in the list settings:

But it is still visible in the SharePoint list itself:

Do you have any ideas about this?

Hi @Anonymous,

Did you try the GET viewfields request I shared in the previous reply. With this GET request you can retrieve all the internal names of the fields from the view you are trying to modify.

_api/web/lists/getByTitle('@{variables('ListName')}')/Views('@{variables('ViewId')}')/ViewFields

If so, can you share the output of that action? This way we can troubleshoot a bit easier what is being used in that view from your last screenshot.

who can read is clearly at an advantage. 😎

With the GET Viewfields request I could now see for myself that it is not 'Titel', not 'Title', but 'LinkTitle'.

Now it works !
