Set initial Approval Response to Approve (auto)

I have a multi-step approval sending email with 3 options in a loop that exits or continues depending on the email selections.

I want to have the initial 'Start An Approval' Response to automatically set as "Approve"

Essentially I want the Approval Action to auto kick off and offer up my inital email with 3 different options, not only the 2 I can get from the approval response (Approve, Deny).

Any help appreciated.

Re: Set initial Approval Response to Approve (auto)

Hi @scsusd,

Could you share more details on your scenario?

It seems that there is no need for you to use the action Start an approval in your flow. If you want to use the action Send email with options to get a response, then you would add this action directly without using the Start an approval.

Besides, there is no available way to automatically kick off the action Start an approval without getting a response from the approver.

While if you want to move on to the next action though you haven’t got a response from the approver with an Approve response, please take the following workaround for a reference.

Before the Start an approval action, initialize variable, set Name as AutoReponse, Type as String.

Then the start an approval action, select the …, then Settings, set the duration of Timeout. Then your flow will move on to the next action once it is timed out without getting a response from the approver.

Add an action Set variable. Set its value as Approve. Note, at here, you need to configure run after so that it will return Approve when the previous action is successful or has timed out.

3.PNG

Add the action send email with options.

Hope this workaround could be your reference.

Re: Set initial Approval Response to Approve (auto)

Thanks Mabel!   My situation is bulding a 2 step approval workflow for document attachment approvals.  I want everything to be done via email and O365 Online docs but am using a powerapp to kick things off via a list.  The list moves the attachment to a Library and references it there.  I use emails because I can do:  Approver (Approve, Revise, Reject) and Requester (Continue, Cancel) at each step.  I believe I have to have the inital Approval Request because it is the actual action that I am subsequently referencing, correct?

Thank you for the work around!
