Triggering flows when a user clicks a link in a SMS

Hi,
I've done a proof of concept with Twilio where I can send a SMS and execute a trigger in power automate if I receive a SMS.  I need a person receiving the SMS to acknowledge they've received the SMS and I need to link it back to the SMS I sent.  There will be a number in the outgoing SMS that I need to receive back in the acknowledgement.  What is the best way to add a link to the outgoing SMS and when the user clicks on the link, trigger a power automate flow?  If there are better alternatives then using a link, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Hello @Jeff_Schuler

You could send a URL in the SMS that executes a flow using the "When a HTTP request is received" trigger. Moreover, you could send a parameter with the user that is clicking on the link. Have a look at this sample:

flow.png

In the HTTP GET URL you could add a parameter in the query string, and read it when the user clicks on the link. For example, imagine that's the endpoint URL to run your flow:

https://prod-123.westeurope.logic.azure.com:443/workflows/f0aa7d/triggers/manual/paths/invoke?api-ve...

You could add to it a new query string parameter like "&userName=Jeff":

https://prod-123.westeurope.logic.azure.com:443/workflows/f0aa7d/triggers/manual/paths/invoke?api-ve...&userName=Jeff

In your flow you will be able to read it using the expression:

triggerOutputs()['queries']['userName']

Hope it helps!

Hi @Jeff_Schuler ,

the function to trigger a flow when user click a link in a SMS is not supported in Microsoft flow currently.

There is no any way to trigger a flow when user click a link in a SMS in Microsoft flow currently and we could only trigger the flow when  a new SMS message is received.

Best regards,
