Unable to Copy a Dataverse Text Column to a Lookup Column in Same Table

I am building a simple Flow to copy data from a text column (Deal-Request-ID) to a lookup column (DRID).
Flow Copy Dataverse column Table view.png
Here are the two columns.

Here are screenshots from the Flow and it fails in the Apply to Each 2 loop in the Get a row by ID (404 error).  Any  recommendations are appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous ,

For the AssignedUsers table DRID LookUp column, in the action Update a row, it needs the GUID of the DealIntakeApps table. So you need to get this GUID value from a "List rows" of the DealIntakeApps table with Filter query set to "Name eq Deal-Request-ID", rather than "Get a row by ID" from the AssignedUsers table.

Hope this helps.

One additional clue: The INPUTS & OUTOUTS show raw inputs/outputs are both blank and the Output has a status reason = 200.
Flow Copy Dataverse column LSIT ROWS.png

Hi @Anonymous ,

I see the table name in the flow is "AssignedUserss" while the display name in Dataverse it is "AssignedUsers", could you please check if you have selected a wrong table from the dropdown?

For more info, raw outputs of the List rows action is abnormal to be blank. But status code 200 means action is succeed. Could you please tell how many items are there in this table? It is possible to see blank in the output when the table holds many items, the raw outputs need to download the whole metadata so it will appears to be blank for a short period of time before the download work complete.

Hope this helps.

@v-jefferni - Thanks so much for your response!  As shown below, there is unfortunately only the AssignedUserss table available in the dropdown.

@v-jefferni - I manually entered "AssignedUsers" for the table name and got this error.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I haven't noticed that you were using OData Id for the Get a row action. It should be the unique identifier column from the source table, which I assume it should be the same as the table's name: "AssignedUsers":

@v-jefferni - Thank you, updating the Row ID per your suggestion fixed the issue with Row IDs!  I do still have one more step - Update the Lookup column for DRID with the value in Deal-Request-ID.

Solved: Re: Help with expression - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com) provides an answer "try /entityname(GUID)" but I cannot get it working and the error is "Resource not found for the segment 'cr4de_assignedusers'".  This is also an article on Tip #1311: Use entity name in Flow lookups | Power Platform & Dynamics CRM Tip Of The Day.

Here is a screenshot of my updated Flow.  Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

@v-jefferni - I peeked the code for the "Get a row by ID" action, and I retrieved the entityName as shown in the screenshot below.
Flow DV Get a Row By ID PEEKCODE AssignUserss.png

Next, I updated the Update a Row action for the DRID field (DV lookup col) that I'm trying to populate with the data in the Deal-Request-ID field.  Now I am getting a new error ')' or ',' expected at position 7 in '(020722-101146)', which indicates there are issues with the dash in the DRID lookup column.  Any recommendations?
Flow DV UPDATE a Row AssignUsers ERR.png

@ChristianAbata & @Mira_Ghaly - You have provided similar answers to this question on other posts.  Are you able to determine how to resolve this error?  Any feedback is appreciated!

Hi @Anonymous ,

It seems you have put the wrong value as the LookUp column GUID value.. To be clear, in Power Automate, to setup a LookUp column values, You will need the GUID of the source record. So, as I can see, you will need the GUID column of the DealIntakeApps table.

vjefferni_0-1652061270508.png

A solution will be use List rows action again, with filter query set to DRID eq Deal-Request-ID the dynamic content and use the output GUID as the input value.

Hope this helps.

@v-jefferni - Thanks gain for your response!  I can add another List Rows action as shown below, but setting the filter DRID eq Deal-Request-ID won't work because my goal is to copy the Deal-Request-ID data to the DRID column which has no data.  Therefore, the filter won't produce any rows since the DRID column has no values.

Can you be more specific about your solution?  Thank you!
Flow DV List Rows DealIntakeApp.png

Hi @Anonymous ,

I understand the situation now. You have a blank DRID table for now and will like to populate this table then the AssignedUsers table Deal column looks to this table and get the corresponding values. So, the action should be "Add a new row" based on the Deal-Request-ID of the AssignedUsers table then create the LookUp column value based on GUID of this new created record. Below are the basic steps of the flow, for your reference:

Hope this helps.

@v-jefferni  - Thanks for your response!  Per your last post, "You have a blank DRID table for now and will like to populate this table then the AssignedUsers table Deal column looks to this table and get the corresponding values."  This is not completely accurate.

I have blank records for the DRID column (not table).  I am trying to copy the data from the Deal-Request-ID text column to the DRID lookup column (currently blank) in the AssignedUsers table as shown below.  Therefore, it is NOT copying data from one table to another, it is just copying a text column to lookup column both in the same table.  Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

@v-jefferni - Here are the AssingnedUsers relationships for DRID lookup column.
Flow Deal-REquest-ID copy to DRID lookup RELATIONSHIPS.png

Hi @Anonymous ,

As per the design, LookUp columns of Dataverse will include the whole real record in the other table and display the respective primary name column values. So if it is blank in the source table, the LookUp column shows blank. The very first step to save Text column value to the LookUp column is that you should save it to one record in the source table. Actually the common sequence to achieve a LookUp functionality is having two tables first, then create a LookUp column in one table so that you will be able to select a record from another table, which just means to relate this two records.

So the question is: how do you know which record of the DealIntakeApp table you would like to update the DRID column with the Deal-Request-ID text value?

The basic logic for the flow will be

1. loop the AssignedUsers table to get the Deal-Request-ID values. (List rows in a table (AssignedUsers) -> Append to each)

2. insert Deal-Request-ID value to the respective record's DRID column of the DealIntakeApp table. (Update a row (DealIntakeApp))

3. set the DRID LookUp column value in the AssignedUsers table. (Update a row (AssignedUsers))

@v-jefferni - Thank you for your quick response.   The Deal-Request-ID is NOT blank in the source table (DealIntakeApp).  I established the lookup column and the table relationships before building this Flow.  But the LookUp column in the AssignedResources table is blank because my Flow to date can't write data to that column.

Are you able to demonstrate your proposed solution in a Flow?  Please see my notes in red below and I was not able to fully grasp your proposed solution.  Thank you!

(Update a row (DealIntakeApp)) The DRID data is already in the Name column in the DealIntakeApp and there is no DRID in this table.  The DRID lookup column is only in the AssignedUsers table.
DRID is in the DealIntakeApp Name col.png

3.  Set the DRID LookUp column value in the AssignedUsers table. (Update a row (AssignedUsers))
Am I not already doing this?
DV AssignedUsers Flow checks.png

Hi @Anonymous ,

For the AssignedUsers table DRID LookUp column, in the action Update a row, it needs the GUID of the DealIntakeApps table. So you need to get this GUID value from a "List rows" of the DealIntakeApps table with Filter query set to "Name eq Deal-Request-ID", rather than "Get a row by ID" from the AssignedUsers table.

Hope this helps.

Same exact issuer here as well. Simply want to copy data from a text column to a lookup column in the same table.  I did all the same steps as above... any update? or alternate solution?
