Unable to capture the approval details of the 2nd stage approval

Hi,

I am relatively new to Flow and am building a 2 stage approval workflow:

Stage 1 - Manager approval [start an approval]

Approval record created in a SharePoint list

Stage 2 - Director approval [start and wait for an approval]

Approval record created in a SharePoint list.

The problem I am having is that the stage 1 approval record is be created correctly, but I am unable to capture the approval details of the 2nd stage approval.

The only dynamic content I am able to use is the Response, Approver name, Response date and Comments from the start an approval action for stage 1 approval, as these dynamic content elements are not available in the start and wait for an approval action used for stage 2.

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Your problem is in Stage 1 I think and I suspect you are seeing it because you started from a Template.  There are several different Approval actions currently.

  • Create an Approval
  • Wait for an Approval
  • Start and wait for an Approval

You will notice that Start an Approval isn't in that list.  That is a version one release of the approval action.  That's why you are seeing different dynamic content from the actions.  The newer approval action can be sent to multiple parallel approvers so it always returns the responses as a collection of reponse objects. You'll need to process the responses in a loop if you want access to all the information like the comments.  There is an Outcome object that includes the overall response without the details.

You should really replace the Start an Approval with Start and Wait for an Approval and learn to use the more detailed output in the newer version.
