Use Get Table or Determine Excel file

Hi all,

I have 2 problems I am hoping to overcome in my flow. Overall the process is as follows. The parts I'm struggling to resolve are underlined in Step 1 and all of Step 2.

STEP 1

  • When a file is created in SharePoint
  • If it is not excel (.xlsm), delete it
  • If it is excel (.xlsm), if
    • The file Contains X Table - Copy to Sharepoint Folder A
    • The file Doesn't Contain X Table - Copy to Sharepoint Folder B
  • Delete the original file

STEP 2

The files being copied into the folder are for a forecast. If the person submitting the forecast submits a second forecast, I need it to delete the earlier copy. The filenames do differ so I can't rely on it to over-write the previous file. The forecast area is defined in a particular cell and also within a table in the .xlsm file.  The table contains other information as well as the area code.  Worst case, the first 10 digits of the .xlsm file is the forecast area.  Is it possible to

  • Get the Forecast Area from all files
  • Find duplicates
  • Remove the duplicate with the oldest last edited date

Thanks in advance!!

Kirsty

Re: Use Get Table or Determine Excel file

Hi @KirstyClark,

For your first question:

Could you please explain more details about the X Table that you mentioned?

Do you want to check if a excel file have a table which name is "X"?

If you want to check if a excel file in a sharepoint have a table which name is "X", I have made a teat on my side, you couldn't get the tables of excel with the dynamic content of an excel, you could only get the excel from the file Picker in the "Get tables" action of excel online (business) connector,so I afraid there is no any way to achieve your requirement.

For your second question:

Could you please share more details about the excel file?

Could you please share more details about the forecast area in the excel file?Does the excel files would only have one forecast area.

Please share more details about the excel file content so we would try to provide a proper workaround for you.

Best regards,

Alice

Re: Use Get Table or Determine Excel file

Hi Alice,

Thank you for providing your feedback.  Question 2 is a very similar process to question one and hence I don't think will be solved by MS Flow.  Thanks for replying, I think I'll use a different application to achieve this outcome.

Many thanks

Kirsty
