Use data entered in List 1 to reference data in List 2

I have 2 lists. One is a "Check Out Request List" and the second is a "Document List". The User adds an item to the Check Out List by entering a Document Number. I want to check to see if the "Checked Out" column in the Document List for the given Document Number is Yes or No. Then, if the Document is not checked out, I want to update the Item in Document List to 'Yes'.

 

I have tried to use a Look-up column on the Check Out List, but that isn't supported. I tried filtering the Document List based on the Document Number input, but that didn't work.

 

Symantics of my issue aside, I'm struggling with how to reference information a second list based on information given in the initial list using Flows. It doesn't seem like there is ANY possible way due to Flows' current limitations. I'm open to any work-arounds and worst case I'll implement the Workflow using Sharepoint Designer 2013.

I think this could be done.

Steps should be below:

1. Add the When an item is created trigger for the Check Out Request List,

2. Add SharePoint->Get Items Action, sepcify the list to Document List,

3. Add a condition to check if the Document Number from the Get Items Matches the one specified under the Check Out Request List,

4. If yes, add another condition to check the Check Out column value, if it equals to No, Update the field to Yes.

Things to remind:

For the update item action, make sure the Check Out column is not a Choice column, currently only Text, number and the Check Box type could be updated for SharePoint List in Microsoft Flow.
