Hello, I am looking for help with my power apps / SharePoint online solution I am building. I created a canvas app from a SharePoint list. I need to figure out how to create an auto generating unique id.
The numbers need to match their current numbering system, which starts in the 6000's. And increase by 1 for each submission (6001, 6002, 6003, 6004, etc.).
Hey there,
It seems like you can do this all in SharePoint. This article is a little older, but would something like that work?
Keep us posted.

One way to do this would be to create a SharePoint list that only has 1 row of data and two columns - the Title and a number column.
Every time you need a new number, use a Get Items action and retrieve the row and the value in the number column from the new list. Then update the list item by incrementing the value by one.
See my example below. The expression that I use can se seen in the comments area. Since I have only 1 row of data in my IDList, the loop will only run 1 time.
Hi @ScottShearer , thanks for the response. Can you provide an example.
Right now I got stuck with the following update action, using expression:
add(triggerBody()?['ID'],6045)
My ID's are too high, and I only need it to increase by the value of one. You are saying to create another list with one item on there for the flow to call? I need it to add 1 to the previous number.
I updated my original post with an example.
Hi @ScottShearer ,
It recieved an error message, see attached.
What does it mean they are not defined in the template?
What is the name of the column in your ID list that stores the Unique ID? If it is "Unique ID", then you probably need to refer to it as UniqueID in your expression (without the space). Flow uses a columns internal name and SharePoint Online ususally just removes the spaces.
add(items('Apply_to_each')?['UniqueID'],1)
Give that a try and let me know if it works.
The list that stores the id is 'current id'.
Started the first unique id at 6035.
I removed the space and still recieved the same error message
and the other list is 'Purchase Order'. update 1
Can you post screen shots of you Flow that includes more of the Flow? The Update item and Update item 2 actions should be inside of a loop.
Yes they are inside of a loop.

screen 3
Hi @ScottShearer ,
I added '_' and the flow was able to save, however then the flow fails on the second update.
Change the data type of your Unique ID column in SharePoint to a number with no decimals.
That fixed it! However, my number isnt generating.
As you see the current id list isnt updating.
Is the issue because I have 6035 entered in the line, is there something else that is supposed to be in this entry to allow to auto increment?
Hi @DCI_18,
These three items were created by the previous unsuccessful run. The unique ID in the ID list did not add up successfully. You can delete these three test items and try it again.

What does this mean? I changed all the number columns to 0 decimal places.
Is the issue because I have 6035 entered in the line, is there something else that is supposed to be in this entry to allow to auto increment, or leave blank? All of the number fields ave 0 decimal places, is the issue its a number column?
If you could do the following, I may be able to assist. From your latest run, go to the get items action. At the bottom of the action is a section called body. Please copy all of the text from the body and post here.
I would like to do something similar, but add a prefix before the number. e.g PA-001
