best practice for scheduled flow that has to check against previous iteration

Hi, I'm newbie to power automate,
I made a simple scheduled flow that notify me when a website is down, very easy and simple it run every minute, BUT it send a notification every minute until the website comes again up, while i would like to notify only a change of status, like the first time it goes down and the first time it goes up.
So my question is:
is it possible to store a global variable and check it in the next iteration?

Since i'm totally newbie maybe it's super easy or impossible, i have no idea. But if you can point me to the right direction I thank you
Thanks, cheers

Hi @davdenic

Yes, i forget about that, Yes it would be better to use dataverse instead of excel, as interacting with excel every 1 minute may cause it to fail sometimes

May i know what you meant by this?

while i would like to notify only a change of status, like the first time it goes down and the first time it goes up.

Try to use "Get my profile (V2)" and "Update my profile" actions to read/write the status.

Welcome to my web site.

@Nived_Nambiar  I want to notify when it goes down and when it comes up again and when it goes down again and when it comes up again but if i set the scheduled flow as i made it, it can notify only "it's down" every 1 minute until it get Up again. So if the website stays down for 10 minutes I will get 10 notifications. If it stays down for 30minutes I will get 30 notifications.
If I can store this status change somewhere I can just notify when It comes up or down.
Is it more clear now?
Thanks

@VictorIvanidze i have no clue what you're talking about, sorry I'm totally new here. Can you point me where is my profile thingy?
Thanks

Yes, I got it 🙂

So to confirm, bot should notify only if the webiste is down , not when it is up after down for sometime ?

Hi @davdenic

I think there would a way you can monitor those changes,  By using an excel file, where it record each day website state (whether it is down/up) based on run something like this below

Nived_Nambiar_0-1680255770452.png

So what the flow do is, it should check the status of website using http request , and then need to check whether the current day record is existing in excel, if not it should add the details in excel with current date and website status code (200 > OK, )

If the flow finds that current day record is already present in the website,  then next it should check whether the current website status value in excel for current day and status code result from http request are same, if they are same, there is no need to send the teams message  else, update the website Status column for current date, and send a teams message if website is down

Created a demo flow for this

Expression:  length(outputs('List_rows_present_in_a_table')?['body/value'])

Yes Branch

No Branch

Nived_Nambiar_6-1680256540935.png

Expression:  outputs('List_rows_present_in_a_table')?['body/value']?[0]?['Website Status']

Nived_Nambiar_7-1680256595538.png

Expression:  outputs('List_rows_present_in_a_table')?['body/value']?[0]?['Date']

Hope it helps 🙂

Mark it as solution if it resolves your query 🙂

@Nived_Nambiar The solution via excel could be ok, i'm wondering if there could be performance issues reading and writing in an excel file every minute. Maybe i can create a table in dataverse as well if it work better.

Thanks

Hi @davdenic,

have a look at this freeware: https://ivasoft.com/websitewatchdogflow.shtml

The flow doesn't require the premium "HTTP" action to check the status of a web site.

Also it saves the status gotten on the previous iteration in the open extension.
