utcNow() output to Excel not working

Hi! I'm a new user to Microsoft Flow. I took ownership of a Flow from a specialist and I'm having issues with the utcNow() data exporting to Excel properly. It was working and the output was time in Zulu, but once I took ownership and rebuilt the flow, the output to Excel has been the literal text of the function:

Excel_Formula.PNG

I have tried mulitple variations from the different answers I'm seeing in the forums but haven't had any luck. Here is a screenshot of the function formula:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Issue has been resolved. I had to republish the Suvey123 form entirely and recreate a new Flow.

@johnwalls1979

Not sure this workaround will help, since I haven't test it yet.

Can you try to initialize a string variable with utcNow() value before "Add a row into a table", and then assign the variable as "Submitted On" input?

HOpe it helps

Re: utcNow() output to Excel not working

Hi @johnwalls1979 ,

How did you rebuild the flow?

According to your description, I create a flow then add another user1 as owner. User1 could edit the flow and save the updates. However, when user1 triggers the flow, the issue you mentioned doesn’t occur.

Please share more details to help reproduce this issue.

Re: utcNow() output to Excel not working

Hi Mabel,

I see now how that language was confusing.

The Flow is tied to a Survey123 Form where a field specialist will fill out 5 questions about their data collection for the day. The answers are then stored with notes field in an Excel table with the submittal time saved as the first column (the column I'm having issues with). If the last question is marked yes, it triggers an email to myself and another GIS specialist who can review their issues. The time stamp field is what the table is sorted on so we can review the latest qa/qc issues.

The specialist I took over for sat with me and we rebuilt the Flow from scratch. So it wasn't copied over. But the excel table that the Flow directs information to is the a copy of the original. The rest of the output is working fine, but the time stamp is the only thing not working.

Re: utcNow() output to Excel not working

Hi @johnwalls1979 ,

The issue still could not be reproduced by me.

If you try to add rows into the original Excel table, will you have the same issue?

What’s the number format of SubmittedOn column?

Could you try with a new Excel table to see if the same issue will happen?

Best regards,

Mabel

Re: utcNow() output to Excel not working

HI Mabel,

I get the same error whether in a new table or the existing table. The format of the table is General since there is a mix of alpha and numeric characters.

I have tried changing the clock settings on my computer and within the Survey123 form itself without any success there either. I still get the same output of the formula.

Thank you,

John
