Change Dropdown value to existing value in editfrom

I have created a dropdown for 'State' column of SPList.

On edit form

-If nothing is selected it gives list in items property(works fine).

-If some value is already selected ,then also dropdown shows same list present in items property.

If value exists in State column,I want to populate dropdown with value from State column in SPList.

Is there any way to do this?

Re: Change Dropdown value to existing value in editfrom

Hi @Nikita1

If this is inside an Edit form and the form is configured for Edit mode, you can set the Default property of the dropdown as:

Parent.Default

This will automatically fetch the value based on the datafield of the datacard control.

Hope this Helps!

Hey @Nikita1

Can you share a few details about the configuration of the edit form like Items and Item property? Also, are you getting any error while using Parent.Default?

Hope this Helps!

Re: Change Dropdown value to existing value in editfrom

Hi @Nikita1 ,

Could you tell me

1)the data type of 'State' column ?

2)the formula in the drop down's Items property?

1)If it is a choice type, we usually set like this:

set the drop down's Items:

Choices(listname.State)

set the drop down's Default:

ThisItem.State.Value

set the datacard's Update:

{Value:drop down1.Selected.Value}

2)If it is a text field, we usually set like this:

set the drop down's Items:

Distinct(listname,State)

set the drop down's Default:

ThisItem.State

set the datacard's Update:

drop down1.Selected.Result

Re: Change Dropdown value to existing value in editfrom

Hey @Nikita1

Can you share more information about the configuration and logical implementation of the scenario? Maybe through some snippets, screenshots or examples.

If this is regarding editing an already existing item, you need to set the Item property (Note: This is different from Items property). This works in the case when the control is inside an Edit Form.

If this is outside the Edit form, you need to use LookUp on the Default property to LookUp(DataSourceName, Col1 = "Value1")

Hope this Helps!
