ComboBox with (2) data sources?

Hi Folks -

I have a need to leverage a ComboBox, but I need the list of values to be populated from (2) different data sources:

RD_Target_List & RD_Portfolio_Compound_List.  From both tables, I need to display the "Alias" column.  Another peices is there is another field in both SP tables called "Portfolio_Status" so I only want to display values from the Alias columns AND are not "Terminated" for the "Portfolio_Status" column.

I'm trying to play around with multiple galleries but can't quite seem to get anything to produce the results I want. Hoping some folks can shed some light for me, thank you!

@ZePowerDiver  Thank you!

but since I have two sources, does it matter which one I use then in the ComboBox when initiating a source?

If we go with the sample provided by @Anonymous you use the ListElements collection as the source for the combobox which combines the results of your two sources.

Hi PowerDriver - ah yes, I got it work - thank you!

I'm running into one issue where now I need to link the selection back to another field.

Therefore, since it has no SP data source, how do I connect to the field?   In the "Default" section of the field I want to link it to, I tried to add:

ComboBox1.Selected.ListElements

But that doesn't work.  How do I connect to my combo box from another field?

Thank you

From what I know, there are a few things to look for / consider:

  1. Make sure the SelectMultiple property of the ComboBox is set to False/OFF
  2. Since the ComboBox returns a Collection and for your field you need to point to a single entry, do a First() such as: First(ComboBox1.SelectedItems)
  3. From there, you need to point out the the field within that collection record, because you get the whole set.. something that may look like First(ComboBox1.SelectedItems).PutFieldNameHere

@ZePowerDiver @Anonymous

That worked great - thank you!

My last question (i'm sorry!) is how would I display the current value in the table? Allow me to explain.

The ComBox is sitting in an EditForm whose datasource is "rdTarget", but the ComboBox itslef has a source of "ListElements" which is a collection, as you know.

The collection is actually going to populate a column in SharePoint called "Lead_Backup_Compound".  However, since this is a form end users use to initiate change requests, if the particular data element they are submitting a CR for has a value in the SP table for "Lead_Backup_Compound" I want to display it in the ComboBox. This way, and end user can leave as is, or chose from the drop down (which is th enew ocllection) of a new value to use.

How would I go about this? In the form I hide a field called "TargetID" which is the unique identifier of the data element in the SP table. So I based on that field on my form, I tried to do a Lookup to return the "Lead_Backup_Compound" field but no luck.

Here is my table:

L.png

Then I tried to put a lookup in the ComboBox as such, but didn't work (DataCardValue101 is the TargetID field)

Lookup(rdTarget, TargetID=DataCardValue101.Text,Lead_Backup_Compound)

How would I acheive this? Thanks!

Just to make sure I've got this right.

  • The Form is used to update your rdTarget datasource (That is what you have in the items property of the Form)
  • The Field you update, using the comboBox is Lead_Backup_Compound (That is what you have in the datacard source)
  • The ComboBox items (datasource) is the collection that you've built based on 2 sources : ListElements

Please confirm the structure of the ListElements collection and that I've got this right.

@ZePowerDiver  That is 100% correct!!

Please confirm the structure of the ListElements collection.

@ZePowerDiver

Clear(ListElements);
ForAll(
Filter(RD_Target_List, Portfolio_Status<>"Terminated"),
Collect(ListElements, Alias)
);
ForAll(
Filter(RD_Portfolio_Compound_List,Portfolio_Status<>"Terminated"),
Collect(ListElements,Alias)
)

So the default value for Lead_Backup_Compound would be more like:

Lookup(ListElements, Alias=DataCardValue101.Text)

but if ever I'm wrong, please send a picture of what the collection actually looks like.
