So for each project we have an excel file named something like "Drawing List_.xlsm" and this is located in a folder path to something similar to C:/XXXXXX/XXXXXX//XXXX/Project_number_XXXX/XXXXX/XXXX/Drawing List.xlsm.
I was wondering if I can just type the project number into PowerApps and it pulls up the folder, then follow another file path then pulls the excel file that I need and pulls that data into PowerApps. For each project, the folder path is the same, the only thing that changes is the Project_number and the _XXXX that follows after that. (something similar to this: C:/XXXXXX/XXXXXX//XXXX/Project_number_XXXX/XXXXX/XXXX/Drawing List.xlsm.) the rest stays the same.
I know how to link excel to PowerApps, I am just not sure on how to call on different excel list with a slight change in the file name. The XXXX after the project number (Project_number_XXXX) changes as well, so I just want to type the project number in, and retrieve the excel data from that. The excel spreadsheet is not uploaded to sharepoint, so I need to be working with the copy saved on the hard drive.
Is there a way to do this? I am fairly new to PowerApps, so I am looking for any pointers/ URL links videos to point me in the right direction.
Hi @cllee777 ,
Do you want to connect to the Excel file with different Project number (Project_number_XXXX) dynamically from a PowerApps app?
If you want to connect to the Excel file with different Project number (Project_number_XXXX) dynamically from a PowerApps app, I afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently.
Currently, within PowerApps, when you connect to a data source from an app, you must provide a specific file path. Connectiong to data source dynamically is not supported in PowerApps currently.
If you would like this feature to be added in PowerApps, please submit an idea to PowerApps Ideas Forum:
