Form: display a different value than underlying datasource

I have a simple form with Date, Comment, and Person_ID. I can get this to display and work fine, editing the underlying data table when I press submit. Instead of displaying Person_ID on the form, however, I want to display a lookup from another table to display the name in a drop-down menu. When I submit the form though, I want to submit Person_ID.

I'm a little confused how to get this working with the data cards. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

@kman42

This is typically what a Lookup column will do for you in your list.  If you have a Lookup column defined and set to the other list, then when you create an EditForm in your App, it will automatically add all of that functionality.

If that's not and option and you are going to do it by hand, then you will need to put a ComboBox or DropDown box in your form and set its Items property to get the list of names and ID's from the other list.

You'll want to then set the update properties of the DataCard that has this control in it to submit the ID from the selected item in the dropdown/combobox.

Then the only other hurdle is to set the Default Items properties to - if it's an edit of existing data - the record that matches the ID of the person.

See if you can just set up a Lookup column first like mentioned above.  If not and you jump into the next suggestion and have issues, just post back if you get stuck.

I hope this is helpful for you.
