I have been searching the forum, and the internet, for building an app that "reads" Dials / Gauges. There is a lot of information out there, but not specifically for this idea. I work for a company that captures a lot of data that comes from a manufacturing line consisting of both digital and analog gauges. I find that there is difficulty in trying to read the analog dials consistently. My solution would be to have an app view the dial and record the number.
In a nutshell:
- Open App
- "Take Picture" of a Dial/Gauge
- "Picture" of Dial / Gauge is translated to a number
- The number is placed in a text box
- Repeat for all Dials/Gauges
I understand that this may be utilizing more than just PowerApps. Is there a resource out there that could illuminate this particular puzzle?
I have observed that there is a delay when an operator is reading a dial/gauge. This delay is caused by trying to figure out what the reading is if the number is between tick marks. For example, if the distance between tick marks is 10 and the needle is pointing to around the middle, the possibility of the result could range between 3 and 7. Thinking of the role that a PowerApp can play, I imagined an app that would view the dial/gauge and give consistent readings.
As it stands now, based on the rest of your post, does not look like something that is possible, at this time. However, any other input would be welcome.
