Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

I spent a few hours trying to fuigre this out so hopefully its useful to to ohers.

If you use sharepoint lists as your data source you need to remove the datasource and re-add it to the app if the sharpoint list schema changes.

Steps to show the issue:

  • Create 2 lists in sharepoint.
  • Add the lists as datasources in Powerapps.
  • Create some Galleries to show the data in the lists.
  • Save and run the powerapp - all will be displayed correctly.
  • On one of the lists in sharepoint add a few new columns - (addding a lookup causes additional isues)
  • Open the powerapp in the editor
  • The added columns are not available in the autocomplete when adding them as controls in the gallery.
  • Refresh the datasource a few times and the new columns become available in autocomplete and the app works in prieview.
  • Save the app, close the editor and open the app.
  • The added columns will appear as blank.
  • If you added a lookup you get a specific error that the lookup field is invalid.
  • If you re open the editor the fields you added will be showing an error until you refresh the datasource a few times.

It appears the only way to get the column changes into the powerapp are to remove the datasource then re-add it, then all the problems go away.

Re: Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

Hi @SimonMeadows and others,

This is a known issue and should be fixed in Next Release. (current version is 2.0.630- 2.0.631, minor version 2.0.632).

Please take the following thread as a reference, response from Staff sarafankit:

"

You are right, the issue remains in 2.0.632.0, we could not fix it before that release. The issue will be fixed in the next release.

"

Thread reference: Update data source is temporary

Michael

Re: Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

Same issue when changing a SharePoint column type from e.g. text to number.

Disconnecting the SharePoint list as datasource and connecting it again solves the issue.

Re: Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

You should be able to click "..." next to the data source then Refresh, to update it with schema changes.

Re: Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

I've tried refreshing by clicking "...", but that did not solve the issue - only data was  refreshed.

Re: Sharepoint list column changes cause problems

Still apply !

I had to go back and forth between powerapps form and sharepoint with data source refresh before I could see the column type change from number to text.
