Updating PowerApps Table from Excel File

Hello, I linked my PowerApps to an excel workbook that is in a OneDrive. All was working great, but I since added a few columns to the workbook table and saved the workbook. When I go back into PowerApps and try to refresh the table to bring in the new columns, I can't seem to get it to bring in the new columns I added. I even tried to import a new data connection with no success. Any experience on this?

Re: Updating PowerApps Table from Excel File

Hi @amwilber,

As @v-monli-msft says you should make sure the new column is the table format in your same table in One Drive.

And I have create one excel table to test.

Firstly make sure it is the same table and is the table format;

Secondly, After you choose View->Data Sources->Data->Refresh, the table will not refresh instantly, but it will add the new column in the fields, you need to choose the new one and then it will appear in your app.

Another method is you can choose remove this currently table and add source again.

Next is my steps:

excel1.pngexcel2.pngexcel3.pngexcel4.pngexcel5.pngexcel6.pngexcel7.png

 1. Create the table in excel and then save it as workbook  in onedrive;
2.create the app and use data table to test.

3.save it and then go back to the excel in the one drive to add one column.
You will see there is one PowerAppsId generated automatically, and then add the new column:NEW_1 and then save it in One Drive and close the excel then go to the App to refresh.
4.View->Data Sources->Data->Table 1->Refresh

5.there is no the new column instantly
7.Then choose the View-Data source-->DataTable1 and then you will see the new Column is in the fields, then you need to choose it by manual.
8.You can choose remove currently one to instead refresh and connect it again.

Hope this can be helpful.Thanks a lot.

Re: Updating PowerApps Table from Excel File

Hi @amwilber,

For the newly added columns did you make sure that they are inserted and combined as the same table that you used to connect to the app?

In PowerApps, you can create a canvas app based on Excel data only if it's formatted as a table.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/how-to-excel-tips

Make sure that the new columns are added to the same table, then refresh the data source in PowerApps and then test again.

Regards,

Mona
