Why am I needing grant access to a whole SharePoint site for the PowerApp to not error?

Hi,

I have an App which is writing to and reading from a SharePoint List but I have started having an issue where users are unable to view the list data and see the below message when the app loads: "You don't have permission to view this data. Server Response: Access is denied."

Everyone has contribute access to the SharePoint list and I even explicitly added my test account but still receives the same error.

I gave read access to the whole site and this has now worked.

Why would I need to give read access to the site just to read list data? Has anyone else had this issue? I really don't want to give site access because it's going to be used as a private team site.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Why am I needing grant access to a whole SharePoint site for the PowerApp to not error?

Hi @v-xida-msft the 'everyone except external users' group was granted Contribute access like you shown in the gif image.

I sent a direct link for the SharePoint List to a couple of users and they were able to access this without any issues.

The app has randomly started working again about 1 week later after no changes had been made so unfortunatley I can't troubleshoot this anymore and will never know what was wrong!

Thank you for the suggestions to try.

Re: Why am I needing grant access to a whole SharePoint site for the PowerApp to not error?

Hi @KellySlack ,

How do you assign the Contribute Access of your SP List to your end users?

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. The user with Contribute permisson to my SP list would be able to run my shared app and read data from my SP list.

On your side, you could consider ask your end users to access the SP List URL directly, then check if they could open the SP list on your web browser.

Also please check if you have set a proper Contribute permisson of your SP List to your end users. More details about setting a Contribute permisson of a specific SP list to a user, please check the following GIF screenshot:Test.gif

Please consider remove the Contribute access permission of your SP list for your End users, and then re-assign again. Then re-generate a new app based on this SP list, then share this app to your end users, then check if the issue is solved.

Also please make sure you have assigned Contribute permisson of a proper SP list to your End users.
