BPF in model-driven app

Greetings,

I'm creating a Business Process Flow (BPF) within a model-driven app which has 6 phases..  My issue is that within several of the phases are rules requiring data in a variety of child records that hang off of the main record the BPF is primarily based on.  To include this in the BPF, I need to create additional phases since each phase needs to be tied to a single entity.  So while I have 6 main phases off of the parent record, I end up creating another 5 phases to establish the rules for the 5 child entites in terms of data requirements.  This makes the UI/steps to the user quite noisy with 11 phases.

So my question is if there's any other options to checking for the presenence of related records in the child entities without creating a seperate phase for each one?  Or other options for managing/simplifying the BPF?  I haven't found too but in terms of details examples and customizations that could be applied to BPFs.

Thanks in advance for any feedback/guidance.
