Back button without save

Is there a way to have the back button not save the record before going back or a different back button I should be using?

I'm a newbie, trying to update an existing model-driven app, so any resources you can point me to for customization of the command bar would be appreciated.

Model driven apps are more rigid (compared to canvas apps), and it isn't as simple to make customisations to that area of the app.

I would look at using Scott Durow's Ribbon Workbench to make that customisation. There are some more details in this blog post here.
