Best place to perform calculations

Good morning,

Quick question here?

Where is the best place to perform calculations?

I mean, I am building an APP and I need to decide :

1. In my Share Point have  some Calculated columns of what I need and then in PowerApps have some labels that show the value.

2. In my Powerapps have the labels with the calculations and the Pacth those values back to my SPL.

For you as a developer witch option is better?

Thanks in advance for any response

@sajarac
I prefer to calculate them in PowerApps and PATCH back to SharePoint.  Calculated columns are stored as TEXT values (which is absurd IMHO).  Therefore, you cannot perform numeric calculations without using the VALUE function which breaks delegation rules 😞

Hi,

To me it really depends on the type of calculations.

I actually prefer SharePoint for many reasons but for example if you are calculating strings to access API and JASON data it can reduce the traffic and in some cases cost to have SharePoint calculate once. Also in many cases it helps give a better audit trail also, and finally PowerApps runs on local systems that we do not have control of processing power or hardware and is in some cases better to reduce the local processing.

If you want feel free to contact me directly jay@research-Nest.com, We can do a teams meeting and get better information to help you.
