Best practice for Edit/Save SharePoint list items in gallery

Hi All

So I have a gallery with SP list as items and I want to have Edit button for each item. When user click Edit button - fields of this item becomes editable and Edit button changes to Save, and when save button clicked - all changes saved back to list, fields become Display and button changes back to Edit.

I am looking for the best practice to mark which item is being edited so app can make fields editable and change button. I used to create a  new collection from SP list with adding "Editing" Boolean column and making this collection Gallery`s items, but I am wandering if there is a better way for it.
