Building model driven app - how to achieve this scenario within power apps?

Hi, I created a model-driven app and used a blank gallery to create a table-like structure.  The gallery fetches the data from an excel sheet(Connected to one drive). It has labels and combo boxes, where the user can select choices from those combo boxes. After selecting the options when the user clicks on the ‘Save’ Button, the chosen data goes to another excel(Say DestinationExcel) which stores them. The same excel file(DestinationExcel) is being used to display the data selected by the user on the next page. Now, I have one column where I have to find the  "Estimated hours"  to do certain tasks. The formula for it is -> ( sizing duration + sizing duration * Reserve%).

In the first table T1, the 'Sizing(XS,S,M,L,XL)' column has combo box options like XS, S, M, L, XL… Let's say I want to assign random values to these options…. Whenever a User chooses 'XS' the ' Sizing duration' will be 2 (hardcoded values). Similarly, S=10, M =15, L= 20, XL=30 and  reserve% to be - let's say, XS=5%, S=10%, M=15%, L=20%, XL=25%.  Since 'estimated hours' will be numeric and we got both the sizing duration and reserve% as numeric in the backend...so with the click of the ‘Save’ button user will be able to store the selected data from the page along with the calculated data for 'estimated duration' column (after applying the formula somehow on the power apps) inside the excel sheet and that sheet will be used by the next page to display the content. Also, in the end, the sum of all the estimated duration should be shown as the total duration.

Is there any way I can achieve this in power apps? Considering I am new to this environment. Or any alternate way to solve this issue is appreciated as well.

//OnChange SizingDuration ComboBox
UpdateContext
(

   {
      ctx_SizingDuration
      :Switch
       (
          Self.Selected.Value
          ,XS,2
          ,S,10
          ,M,15
          ,L,20
          ,XL,30
        )
      ,ctx_ReservePercent
      :Switch
       (
          Self.Selected.Value
          ,XS,0.05
          ,S,0.10
          ,M,0.15
          ,L,0.20
          ,XL,0.25
        )
    }
);

Then use ctx_SizingDuration and ctx_ReservePercent on the same screen.

If the value must persist across multiple screens use the below instead:

//OnChange SizingDuration ComboBox
Set
(
   var_SizingDuration
   ,Switch
    (
       Self.Selected.Value
       ,XS,2
       ,S,10
       ,M,15
       ,L,20
       ,XL,30
     )
);
Set
(
   var_ReservePercent
   ,Switch
    (
       Self.Selected.Value
       ,XS,0.05
       ,S,0.10
       ,M,0.15
       ,L,0.20
       ,XL,0.25
     )
)

 Then use var_SizingDuration and var_ReservePercent from any screen on the app that you want.

If you want to also set the estimated hours, which for now I'll give as a context variable and based on the context variable formulas above (i.e. to be used on the same screen only), add a semicolon to the last line you used from the above (i.e. after the closing parenthesis of UpdateContext), then add the following formula:

UpdateContext
(
   {
      ctx_EstimatedHours
     :ctx_SizingDuration + (ctx_SizingDuration * ctx_ReservePercent)
   }
);

Then use ctx_EstimatedHours from wherever you want on that screen.

See if it helps @AdiAdi

Hi, thanks for the detailed explanation. I tried using that inside the OnChange property of the combo box but I seem to get an error where XS, S, M, L, and XL aren't recognized. Since I am using the  Excel Table as the data source in the combo box, is there any way I can set some values to the combo boxes themselves? For the ‘sizing’ combo box, I want XS, S, M, L, and XL to be present there when the user clicks on the combo box and he can select the given options. I also found out that the combo boxes seem to take multiple options if the letters are case sensitive (i.e. high and High (Another combo box within the same table) or even xS, s, m (if it's case sensitive) in the excel sheet lead to two different choices in the combo boxes even though I am using distinct.). It would be better if it's available in the app itself like a default property so that users can make choices (if possible).  I think this should fix the previous error as well.

PS. I am using Distinct(Table1, 'Sizing(XS,S,M,L,XL)') inside the items property of the ComboBox to get the distinct value and selected fields as Result. But when I am using distinct, it says ''the control isn't connected to any data". and if I don't use distinct it's not showing the Result field and no data is being displayed in the ComboBox.  Also, I am using Self.Selected.Result in the UpdateContext formula which you have given (was getting an error with Self.Selected.values as Values isn't recognized). But still, XS, S, M, L, and XL aren't recognized while adding the formula.

@AdiAdi ,

Just responding as you tagged me. I do not use Model-driven apps and you are in capable hands with @poweractivate

@AdiAdi

In PowerApps, model driven apps can only be created using Dataverse.  Excel, SQL and SharePoint won't work. Dataverse requires a premium account but Excel files can be imported and used to create the Model Driven app.

Yes, I do have a premium account. Also, I imported the excel file by using Excel Online (for business) connector. Everything else is working fine but as I mentioned in my previous replies some bugs need to be addressed. Since I don't have much experience in this is the reason  I am having trouble, Specially since certain variables aren't recognized and the name isn't valid kind of an error in the combo box when I added the provided solution.  While I am trying to read through the documentation and get to know more about this platform and concepts better, it'd be great if I could use help from experienced individuals.

@AdiAdi

Is there a reason that you didn't convert your excel file to a dataverse table?

The requirement that I got suggested using any data connectors.  Also, I was building a custom UI. But I will try converting the excel file to the Dataverse table and will see if it solves the problem. Thanks
