Can modifications of an item be recorded into a table in powerapp?

Hi,

I am currently building an application for ticket tracking purposes. The data source is a SharePoint list which has a few columns like Affected type, Title, status, Created date, Modified date. I am looking to list all edits made to a particular row in its details page.

DateDescription of changesUser
22/2/2022Ticket createdRobert
23/2/2022Status: In ProgressEdwards

Something like the above table so if there are further edits, more rows will be added. Currently SharePoint List only shows the last modified date and I would like it to record the changes automatically so it can be easier to track changes by certain users and auto-append it into the table

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you provide a bit more details on the mechanics of your app?

Creating a "Change history" column would be my go to option where you need to add actions to all controls in your app to include an append to that column.

Hi,

The purpose of this app is so that tickets can be tracked from a single app, with the modification table showing, we can get an overview of the changes made by certain users and clarify accordingly when needed.

I notice there is template by powerapp that has pretty similar functions call service desk. Let me use that as an example.

So I have a gallery showing all the tickets created;

(Let's say first item at the top)

When tapped in to the individual item, I will have a View Form that shows the current details. This is the page where I will want to input the table in. Table will be view only so I will place it below the cards.

There will also be a Edit button which will direct me to a Edit Form to edit the details of the ticket. I have set the save button to SubmitForm(EditForm); back() and it will update my SharePoint list automatically from there.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for the clarification. In that case I would still go for adding a "Change history" column which is updated when creating the ticket and subsequent changes appended to it.

In case of the sample app for instance, I would include use the below code to build the string to populate the column when creating a new ticket on the CreatePage:

Today()&", " & User().FullName & ":" & Char(10)
&"Priority: " & Dropdown_Priority.SelectedText.Priority & Char(10)
&"Area: "& Dropdown_Area.SelectedText.Value & Char(10)
&"Subject: "& Subject.Text & Char(10)
&"Description: "& Description.Text

The output of this will look something like this:

24/02/2022, BCBuizer:
Priority: Medium
Area: IT
Subject: Test
Description: Test

This should then be included in the OnSelect action of Button1.

Any changes afterwards will have to appended to the value in this column when hitting the save button. For that you'd have to compare the current values of the record against the DataCardValues where any mismatches indicate a change, hence need to be added to the change history.

Hi,

As I'm still pretty new to powerapps and its functions.

I presume the changes history have to be stored somewhere for it to be displayed. Can I append any changes to a new SharePoint list or it does not required to be stored?

Because in event the ticket is closed, it should show the full list of history changes from creation to fixing to completion.

What I would probably do is to add a column to the SharePoint list and keep appending the changes into that.
