Cannot use PowerBI as data source

Hi *,

i want to use selected data in PowerBI within my PowerApps Application. I tried first creating a new PowerApps Application from within PowerBI. It created a new Application and this application had already the connection to the right data fromt he PowerBI Report and also the PowerBIIntegration Object in the left bar.

When i create a new application from scratch go to Add Data Connection > Select PowerBI (Preview) > Type in my PowerBI credentials, then under Data PowerBI is visible but i cannot select it ! And there is also no PowerBIIntegration Object created.

Where is my fault? What i am doing wrong? I have google'd aroung and but there is always only description about how to create out of PowerBI a PowerApp, but not how to create an app from scratch and connect to PowerBI.

You can insert PowerBI tiles from the Insert - > Controls menu

Then select the workspace , dashboard and the tile you want to insert accordingly

Thanky for your response. Thats not what i was looking for. I dont want to embed a PowerBI Tile in my PowerApps Application, instead i want to view a selected data value from a PowerBI Report in PowerApps using for example a Textbox or Label. See also this link which refers to creating such a connection between PowerApps and PowerBI, but dont show this integration step by step building an application from scratch:

You can not create App from Power BI DataSet directly under PowerApps, at least currently.

If you would like this to be added, then please consider submit as an idea:

Currently Microsoft only offers the following approach:

1. PowerApps custom visual,

Which allows you to pass Power BI filtered results into PowerApps, and then do the data modification within the PowerApps visual,

2. Power Bi connector, 

Which acts like a service connector as Office 365 Users, you could be able to send service call through

PowerBI.FunctionName,

3. Embed Power Bi reports in PowerApps,

This is exactly what i want to do:

But i dont know how to access those filtered results within PowerApps. I would exactly like to know how to "add these functionality to an existing PowerApps App"

Yes i have. But this example is also using the PowerBIIntegration Object and there is nowhere documented how to get this one in an existing app. The post also referes to a "App in one day" documentation and i have checked all the related content but couldnt find any hint on the PowerBIIntegration Object. Its really frustrating.

Noone has done this before? I mean creating an app from scratch and adding this thing to the app?

I just tried adding the custom visual and chose an existing app to add the PowerBIintegration object and it worked fine.

I think the confusion is in your approach. To get the integration object created, you must start in PowerBI, not PowerApps, even for existing apps. Save your app, publish it, then close PowerApps and open up your PowerBI report.

Add the custom visual in PowerBI from the marketplace (blog screenshot 1). Click the PowerApps icon to add the visual to the page, then drag at least one field of your data over to 'PowerApps Data' box (blog screenshot 2). From there the tile will refresh and give you the option to create an app or choose one. Once you click choose it will refresh and show you all your apps and allow you to pick it. Follow @ThatAPIGuy's screenshots to get you the rest of the way.

I'm not sure but you will probably need to make sure you have published your app for it to show up in the list. The first time I clicked 'Choose app' it actually failed and I had to go back, but the second time worked fine.

I agree with @strategery's comment. I probably didn't understand your question initially.

Is there any specific reason why you want to add the integration object from PowerApps instead of PowerBI?

You can achieve what you want by going through this route PowerBI -> Custome Visual -> select PowerApp - > Edit in PowerApps. Then why not?
